Lovely appartment/building. Well maintained and astonishing value for money!

10.0

I loved this appartment! Large, space to move around, in what felt something like a stately home. A lovely old building with a chandalier in the foyer! At first sight, the appartment, with its small kitchenette consisting of microwave, fridge, cooker hob, pots and pans etc. and its obviously aged interior, made me kind of expect that there would be stuff that wasn't working. But miraculously, everything did work fine, inlcuding the large telly, and shower, and I was most comfortable here. I even enjoyed changing a wheel on my car with a slow puncture, in the lovely, quiet grounds that surrounded the place, and thanked my lucky stars I was doing this necessary task here, in lovely surroudnings, and not on the hard shoulder of a motorway! Very quick and easy to get to, from the A13 motorway 5 mins away. And also, 10 minutes drive from the lovely old, riverside scenic village of La Bouille. And also, I discovered mostly by accident, within reach for an afternoon's visit to Rouen, whose historical centre with its cathedral and cobbled streets I relished! Don't know about public transport and sadly, there wasn't any boat trips from La Bouille along the River Seinne, dashing my hopes of perhaps a boat trip to Rouen! So took the car instead, which was busy in Rouen, but ultimately very worth it for some last minute fanatical photo-taking etc. But really, this appartment was perfectly situated for someone like myself who was car-driving long distance from Switzerland, on way back to blighty via Cherbourg ferry, and initially just needed somewhere near the motorway to rest my head and break up the journey. I had no real expectations other than that, but it became far, far, more than that, with both the ''Chateau'', La Bouille, and Rouen, all relished in an unexpected Grand Finale to my epic Euro trip!

Can't think of anything about the appartment or ''Chateau'' that I didn't like, but to perhaps give some useful info to fellow future guests, I was a bit preturbed on arrival by the lack of food/convenience shops in the area and scolded myself for not shopping before I got there, to at least have a much needed cup of tea! Also, it was Sunday and so lot of places closed and restaurants only doing tea/coffee and pancakes, that kind of thing. But it should be noted, as I eventually discovered the next day, that there is a Lidl, open 7 days a week I think, til 8pm, and also a ''Intermarche''(supermarket), both at nearby Grand Couronne, which is 2nd village along after Molineaux, about 10 mins drive from La Bouille. But initially, totally unprepared as I was (while assuming there would be a handy shop selling all I needed just down the road!), several hours after arrival I eventually found a place doing fabulous pizzas down the road from appartment near Le Chouquet, where you pay with card outside in a machine and outpops a pizza 5 or 10 mins later. Also, in La Bouille, there's a lovely little restaurant doing fabulous ''Crepes'' (sweet pancakes with just about everything on)! Otherwise, blissul stay in this gem of a place!
