Spacious, secure and central with helpful hosts

Very central location right next to Puerta del Sol with El Corte Ingles department store and supermarket just acorss the road at the back. Hosts were very friendly and helpful and were very responsive to messages and requests. They were personally present at check in to give us keys and show us how to use everything in the apartment. Very secure as you need a key to get to lift area and a code to get into your apartment. At night you also need another key to get into building. Apartment was incredibly spacious and well lit with French doors overlooking the street both in the living area and bedroom and plenty of lights. Everything was impeccably clean on arrival. We didn't need it in October but there is a heating/cooling system. It was handy to have a washing machine and drying rack for longer stays. Towels changed and rubbish cleared every 2 days. Welcome dish cleaning kit and small supply of tea/coffee/sugar/salt/pepper provided.

− Unfortunately during our stay there were protesters camped at Puerta del Sol which created intermittent noise. In the weekends there was more street noise at night but think this is unavoidable in such a central location. Earplugs were helpful. The apartments and reception desk are on the upper floors of a building tenanted by others. Until you obtain your keys you have to be let into the lift area to reach the upper floors (which can be done by the hosts if you msg them or ring the bell for the 3rd floor). Not an issue for us but there is no dishwasher. The shower floor was very slippery - there is a grabrail on the shower wall but a nonslip mat could also be helpful.

Christian was very kind and helpful. The apartment felt spacious and secure. There were adequate dishes for eating. Location was close to many sites and we could walk or take metro easily.

− There were no basic food supplies, except for coffee and sugar packets. There was no salt, no pepper, no oil, or anything of the sort. The encampment in Plaza Del Sol was okay in itself and should be gone in a few weeks, but it attracted right-wing agitators and police, including helicopters and shots. The neighborhood can be noisy at night, especially on weekend nights. We were awakened multiple times.

We only stayed for one night, but Arenal Suites was an excellent find. The location is hard to beat, just moments from Plaza Mayor and perfectly placed for exploring central Madrid, shopping and discovering the city's tapas bars. The apartment was immaculate, very modern and surprisingly quiet given its central location. The bed was extremely comfortable too. Maria and Christian were very helpful hosts and made us feel very welcome. A great apartment in a fantastic location, and one we would have no hesitation recommending.
