Will not return even though the kids pool was nice
6.0Our stay had both positive and negative aspects, and I hope this feedback helps improve the guest experience. The property offers several enjoyable amenities. I appreciated that there were separate adult and family pool areas, which allowed guests looking for a quieter atmosphere to relax while still providing an excellent kids’ pool with a fun water slide. The location is also convenient, with easy beach access. While the hotel restaurant was acceptable, I would highly recommend Island Vintage Coffee next door for breakfast. Unfortunately, there were several issues that affected our overall experience. We encountered roaches in our room on the 26th floor as well as near the elevator on the same floor, which was very disappointing. Our room keys repeatedly deactivated throughout our stay, requiring multiple trips to have them reprogrammed. The elevators were also extremely hot with little to no ventilation, likely due to the age of the building. In addition, both the adult and family pools were completely out of towels by 9:00 a.m., which seemed unusual for a resort of this size. The hotel was also consistently crowded due to outside conferences being hosted during our stay. Because the property provides public beach access, there was a constant flow of non-hotel guests walking through the resort, which made the common areas feel much busier than expected. I do want to recognize Manager Paul, who was professional, pleasant, and genuinely attentive when I shared my concerns. He provided complimentary ice cream and drink vouchers for our family on our final day, and I appreciated his willingness to listen and address the issues. However, one experience left a lasting impression and is ultimately why I do not plan to return. My 11-year-old Black grandson was approached at the pool and asked what room he was staying in. Earlier that day, the pool staff had told us they had run out of wristbands and that he did not need one. We also remove the room key from the children’s wrists while they are swimming because they had already lost them in the pool more than once. Despite our family having already been staying at the hotel for a full week, he was singled out and questioned directly. I believe it is inappropriate and potentially unsafe to ask a child for their room number. If guest verification is necessary, staff should always approach the accompanying adults—not the child. Paul explained that the pool attendants are contracted employees and assured me he would speak with them because children should never be approached in that manner. I appreciated his response, but the incident significantly impacted how safe and welcome our family felt. While the resort has many appealing features and some excellent staff members, the combination of cleanliness concerns, operational issues, and this final experience means I will most likely choose a different hotel for future visits to Waikīkī.
Stay somewhere else
4.0We booked the Malia suite based on the Sheraton’s own photos. Turns out there are 2 versions of the Malia suite, and we got the non-website version. Would not have booked this version. Did not know there are two versions. We asked to move to version 1 and were told it’s not possible. Entire room layout is different. Teeny tiny wardrobe, no closets, no mirrors, or full-length mirror, other than in the restroom. Linens and beds uncomfortable. Hotel staff would not help us with room, or move us another day. Hotel carpets, especially elevator are stained and poor looking. Ran out of pool towels at 10 am and were told to use room towels. Overly crowded and family pool was small and adult pool for over 16.
Great Resort
10.0Excellent hotel! We booked a spacious sea view suite with two private balconies, and the views were absolutely worth it. The resort offers a wide range of amenities, and the valet service was consistently fast and efficient. The property is centrally located and features private beach access, an adults-only pool, and a separate family pool, making it a great choice for all types of travelers. The on-site breakfast and coffee shops were excellent, with good quality food at reasonable prices. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing and convenient getaway.
