I stay in a lot of hotels—I’m Diamond for Life at Hilton and Titanium at Marriott—so I’ve got a pretty good sense of what these brands are supposed to deliver. Unfortunately, this Omaha Marriott is easily one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. It’s hard to believe it’s still carrying the Marriott name. The entire building feels like it should be condemned. It’s old, poorly maintained, and just feels dirty. The hallways are damp and have a musty smell that hits you as soon as you step off the elevator. The carpet looks like it’s at least 20 years old, and the furniture in the rooms is worn out. Even basic things like lights don’t work consistently. The elevator situation is a disaster. One elevator is completely out of service, and because there’s no service elevator, you’re constantly sharing the remaining elevator with housekeeping carts and maintenance staff. To make matters worse, the elevator buttons don’t always work correctly and sometimes take you to the wrong floor. The elevators are so loud that it feels like you’re taking off in a small prop plane. The gym looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. The floors were covered with dust bunnies, which pretty much sums up the level of maintenance throughout the hotel. The cost-cutting is obvious everywhere. There’s only one ice machine, and it’s in the lobby, so if several people are checking in, you’re waiting in line just to get ice. It feels like every decision was made to save money instead of providing a quality guest experience. The damp, musty smell throughout the building was concerning. I can’t say what caused it, but I became sick during my stay and have remained sick for the three days since I left. I can’t say for certain that the hotel was the cause, but the condition of the building certainly made me question the air quality. Overall, this hotel feels neglected, poorly maintained, and run with very little regard for the guest experience. This is far below what I expect from Marriott, and I won’t be staying here again
