Poor quality
4.0Did not live up to expectations. Definitely not a place to go without kids. The place was overcrowded… had to wait 15 minutes just for an elevator. Free breakfast but a madhouse. Food quality of a cafeteria. Older hotel. Rust in the lobby restroom. Plumbing in room gurgled ever y time you turn on the sink or flush the toilet. The Black Drum restaurant was good but they claim to serve fish but we couldn’t find any fish on the menu. Definitely won’t be back. Housekeeping was almost nonexistent.
House keeping
10.0Nellie Smalls house keeping for the fitness center always does a wonderful job. But today went above and beyond setting up our pilates room. Please compliment her!
78 Fitness is wonderful!
10.0Nellie Smalls works in Housekeeping at 78 Fitness. She is amazing at how she keeps everything so perfectly clean. She went up and beyond and helping to get towels and balls and things for the Pilates class. She is always friendly and has a smile as she’s working.
First Time & Last Time
6.0We are Hilton Honors members who stayed four nights from 7/4 to 7/8. Our family travels every year, to many different resorts within the US and Caribbean, and I felt that this one fell short of our past travel expectations. PROS: 1) The Black Drum Brewing company, connected to the pool area, is awesome. The food, drinks and service are great. If they ever lose this place, they are sunk. 2) It is on a nice stretch of beachfront with direct access from the back of the property 3) This hotel is located within the Kingston Plantation in North Myrtle Beach. It is safe and there are gated checkpoints. We liked this. 4) It is very close to Barefoot Landing and some of good outlet shopping. CONS: 1)They neglect to tell you that anyone from the Kingston Planation is permitted to use the hotel pool area. This is unacceptable as many residents bring their own families there and take them to the pool. These are not hotel guests and it makes things unmanageable. 2) Ridiculous wait for elevators to get down and back up to the rooms. The line went approximately 20 people deep at all times of the day and night. In fact, you wait for everything here. It's a bit much. 3) There was no cold water in the room, our safe was broken and we had limited towels. We had to call down several times to get someone to come up. I don't want to have to make calls to fix things on vacation. We can do that in our own home. 3) The staff seem indifferent. This is not a put down of any one person, its just that they appear to hire a lot of retirees and the energy level isn't what it needs to be. We have noted that Hilton has many properties understaffed. And this one is no exception. They are probably exhausted. 4) This is an Embassy Suites on steroids in that it is a cattle call for breakfast and the manager's reception. The breakfast was good but had lukewarm beers poured to me in a pitcher. 5) Because of what I noted about the overcrowded pool, there is a line of people 20-30 deep at 8 a.m. outside the gated pool area. I have NEVER seen this before at any place I have stayed. So, on my vacation, I am basically forced to wake up at 7:45 and haul my behind down to pool line so that I can get a beach umbrella. And, if you don't, your sunk because the sun is very strong there. 6) We also noted people eyeballing our chairs throughout the day looking to steal the coveted umbrellas. Its just a drag. I called and left a VM for the Kingston Plantation management (you don't get Hilton Reps), but never got a return call. If you are a parent with littles, this place probably works because the mini-waterpark is good and there are plenty of families with young kids. Otherwise, I think the Marriott Grand Dunes is a better option. We left and stayed one night at the Sheraton Villas and were very satisfied. It's not on the beach but better rooms and pool area.
