Nice but not great
7.0Nice and clean
− I wasn’t using the air port shuttle so why did I have to pay for parking $30
Loved This Airport Hotel
10.0I loved this hotel! Here’s what I experienced. I had a flight scheduled for Saturday July 4, when public transit from my home to SFO would be limited (weekend and a holiday). Therefore, I needed a hotel for the night before. On Friday I took a bus and BART to the Millbrae station, which was 2 miles from the hotel. I could have taken a bus or an Uber, but I chose to walk, which was pleasant, mostly along the bayshore. Arriving at the hotel, I was greeted in a friendly way, and enjoyed some refreshing cucumber and mint water, and a coffee. (A fancy coffee machine is always available in the lobby.) My room on the first floor had a parking lot view, which was fine with me. Second or third floor would have been a better parking lot and pool view. The pool, by the way, was chilly, which was good on such a rare hot day, but most days wouldn’t make much sense in the foggy bay area. I loved my room, especially the comfortable chaise lounge; that was a nice touch. The one criticism I have is that while the translucent curtains closed, the opaque curtains could not close, or even adjust at all. It was like they were fixed in place to cover only a third of the window. What was the designer thinking? It’s absurd. If you’re concerned about privacy, especially on the first floor, bring something to clip the curtains together, or ask for an extra blanket to add to the curtains. Breakfast was great. Plenty of options, including a pancake-making machine. I started with a bowl of oatmeal, then went for a workout in the (limited) fitness room, then returned for a protein packed second breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, and yogurt. I was well-fueled for my afternoon flight. After checking out, I waited for the free airport shuttle. While waiting, an older lady arrived with a lot of heavy luggage. Cathy, the front desk clerk, joined the lady out front to help unload her luggage. (I also lent a hand.) Never before have I seen a hotel host willing to leave their station to help an arriving guest; it was above and beyond. The (free) airport shuttle was the nicest hotel-to-airport shuttle I have ever experienced. I mean, it was nearly a luxury experience. And it operated all day long, without the senseless mid-day gap of some hotel shuttles. Even though the hotel is slightly outside the close orbit of other airport hotels, it was worth it for the cleanliness, comfort, convenience, service, and value that it offered. I will gladly return. Hopefully by then they will have corrected the issue with the room curtains.
Holiday Weekend stay
8.0Only one person at check in and there were four of us in line. Wait was about 10 minutes. Staff was very nice. Decent breakfast. Area was kept neat. Rooms were basic and clean. No printed instructions about breakfast times, if there was Wi-Fi available. Check out was quick.
− Paid for parking one car. Felt the charge was high since it was not a secure lot. Check out provided a closing statement. I was charged for agreed room rate and a $30 parking fee. My credit card notified me that Holiday Inn had charged a $50 security deposit. There was no mention of that charge in my closing statement or that decuruty depot will be refunded or applied to parking fee.
