Well equipped annd comfortable hotel
8.0The Aacia Palace is located faily close to the beach and a short walking distance to the main centre of Marina Di Ragusa. The room we stayed in was large , with a balcony, and on wehich we had a jacuzzi. Air conditioning was in the room, making it all very comfortable and with a sea view. Along the sea front are numerous restaurants and also in the main square. The hotel has one main restaurant, serving buffet and a la carte. There are 2 main swimming pools, and well maintained, and with plenty of sunbeds. We were disappointed that there was not a drinks service for when around the pool, or at least we were not aware of one. The r esort is quite a long way from any of the main attractions of Sicily (2.5 hours drive to Mount Etna), so if going to the area it has to be to relax.
Ideal base for exploring further afield
8.0Spent 2 weeks in June as part of a Jet2 package from Edinburgh. The 2 hour mini bus transfer wasn't very pleasant, and vehicle had dubious suspension - but we made it! Hotel was exactly as depicted, extremely clean and comfortable. We stayed bed and breakfast which was of a good standard, and all staff from restaurant to reception and cleaning were extremely helpful. We were situated near the adults only pool at the hotel, but thankfully we could also use the pool a short stroll away at the Acacia Marina. At no time could we get a lounger at our hotel due to the age old habit of reserving sun beds and disappearing for a couple of hours! Strangely there is a sign up saying sunbeds shouldn't have unattended belongings on them for more than half an hour (admittedly not long), but nobody adheres to it. So glad we could squeeze in the odd couple of hours, to read a bit and enjoy a swim at the other pool - could be an issue high season though. Marina di Ragusa is a popular beach destination for locals, and it does get very busy at the weekends. There are a few restaurants and cafes in the main piazza, and newer places by the marina. The resort looked a bit neglected, and you do need to watch your feet as there are plenty of dogs, and cleaning up after them is not a thing! Although we were happy with the hotel, it was a bit surprising that the cover charge both for lunch or just a drink at the bar was 2.50 euro per head. An extra 5 euro is a bit steep added to your end of evening nigh cap. On balance it was a good base for touring that part of Sicily, we used the bus a couple of times as the tours were very expensive and we hadn't planned to hire a car. I think for a chill holiday 1 week is probably enough.
fun stay
10.0location and pool area
− gym was a little dated
Exactly a expected from a 4 Star in Italy 'PERFECT'
10.0Was little worried choosing to stay in the deep South of Sicily, however after doing a bit of research and contacting the hotel directly, the East Coast highlights and a few more are still accesible via the Hotel. (Via a local agency, offering 8 Seater Small group Tours, and at 'reasonable prices' considering they are almost 'private type' small group tours). So we opted to stay in this hotel as the price was perfect and so was the Airport. (We usually travel from Newcastle so opted for Edinburgh). Rooms are very comfortable, clean and well maintained (less for the balcony - see below - the views from the balcony were amazing though, we were in room 257 overlooking the gardens). The Swimming Pool at the Acacia Palace is immaculate with lush green well tendered lawns. (Even at the Acacia Marina, which Guests go between the 2, however of course with the pool at the Palace side being Adults Only, it is of course more blissful - we found it got a little busy after 09.00am however quickly found that reserving sunbed just before breakfast is perfectly acceptable). The food in the hotel was plentiful. We have stayed at 4 stars in other parts of Italy and the choice here (as expected) was perfect at both Breakfast (with egg station) and Dinner (With pasta / specialty station - Deserts were amazing). The Restaurant Staff were excellent, with a special mention to 'Alberto' and 'Vanesa', always smiling and went out of their way to always help. The other staff did too, however apologies these are the 2 we remember who we really interacted with daily. Reception Staff are very approachable, always smiling with a special mention again to 'Laura' and 'Dario' who sorted us out with the 3 tours we did to Tarmina and Monunt Etna (on a Full Day), Noto (Half Day), and Ancient Nepolis (Syracuse) and Ortiga Island (For another Full Day). The main resort square takes around 10 mins to walk too, however there are a few small eateries for during the day which you can't miss whilst walking there (Very Good) and a few bars etc. We are not beach lovers however I did dip my toes in one day and the beach was very clean and warm. (The Italian Beaches are always pristine I find). The Supermarket (4 mins walk away - taking a right outside of the hotel) is also very well stocked with cheap eats and wines, beers etc. (Very good value for your pre-dinner Balcony Wine we thought). The only 3 drawbacks if we were to nit pick (Which you may find it hard to find - please dont let them put you off too much). 1. The Reception / Restaurant Lunchtime meal we had on arrival was erm... lets say not the best, and it was a tad overpriced. 2. There is a 2Euro Per Person service charge if you choose for the waiter to get you drinks around the pool (So your 3 Euro water can cost you 5 Euro for example) . 3. The Balcony could have done with a lick of paint. Despite this, it is a great hotel and we had an amazing 10 Nts Half Board here to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. So I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone considering Sicily.
Delightful Sicilian resort
10.0Beautiful hotel set in absolutely stunning tropical gardens with 2 delightful swimming pools .There was also 3 open air hot tubs .Spotlessly clean .Set in a quiet residential area a block away from the promenade and seafront. Staff were excellent especially Fiorino restaurant manager and Agnata our room cleaner . Food was buffet style with emphasis on delicious Sicilian cuisine , although British options were also available. The choice of cakes at breakfast was fantastic. There was a well stocked supermarket just 3 min walk away . The only criticism is that there was no entertainment in the evening so an evening walk to the little town was the only option. Also be prepared for a long journey to the resort .It is at least an hour and a half from Catania airport and the roads are quite uncomfortable!!
Unfriendly, Musty and not worth the money
6.0Our daily housekeeper, AGATHA, was a pleasure and super friendly and breakfast staff was good.
− Front desk staff not welcoming or friendly. Rented us bikes that were on the property and when we started riding them and most of them were flat they told us we needed to go to a place "near the church" to have them serviced with absolutely no directions. Never heard of such a thing in all our years of traveling but in order to ride them we did go and spend over a half hour finding the place, then when we got there no one at the shop and a neighbor showed us a number in order to call the owner of the shop to come to put air in the tires in order to use them. They charged us the full rate for the rentals even with all the hassle we had as well as ZERO apology for our inconvenience. There was also mold on several walls in our bathroom, massive leaking onto the bathroom floor from the shower and a musty smell in the room.
