Nice hotel in a good location
10.0I’ve stayed at many of the other Hiltons in the New Orleans area, and recently stayed here for the first time for a short business trip, It’s conveniently located within a short walking distance to Canal Street and the French Quarter. The room was very nice and spacious. While many Hampton Inns provide the free breakfast in a somewhat small and confined area, the breakfast dining area here was large with plenty of seating. There’s also a nice fitness center with a good selection of equipment. The room rate was very reasonable.
Surprisingly good but know that your getting
8.0I spend 100+ nights per year in all Hilton brands and maintain diamond status. I'm middle aged, not high maintenance and travel to NOLA 3 times per year. Additionally due to my industry/company, I was required to travel during the entire COVID nightmare. I totally understand the challenges and changes the pandemic brought to hotels and have a great deal of respect for the hospitality industry as a whole. I was a previous guest of this property 18 months ago and my experience was even better this time around. All/limited staff I engaged with were pleasant and professional. My room was huge, functional, comfy and filled with light from three floor to ceiling windows. Linens/pillows/bedding/towels was of good quality and looked newer. All interior public areas, elevators, breakfast area, etc. were clean and well maintained. This hotel's location can be a little scary at night; street people and open use of drugs... I returned one evening at 12:30am and the front entrance was accessible without a card key nor was there vales around? Breakfast options and quality below what I've experienced at other Hampton Inn's but not disgusting. Can be expensive with nightly rates comparable to more full service hotels in the immediate area.
Service failure
4.0My toilet is stopped up and there's no maintenance on duty! This is unacceptable and inconsiderate. Also, the manager on duty says there's nothing can be done until in the morning! I have never had this problem and I have been to several of your establishment! I will not be coming to this location anymore! | like staying here cause it was near all the places that I visit when I come here! But now I will have to find somewhere else to go! Very disappointed in this location!
Awful - Expected to eat off paper plates for 12 days
2.0This was an awful experience. We discovered on the first morning of a 12 day stay that the hotel expects its guests to eat off paper plates with plastic cutlery. Hilton should be ashamed to put their name to this brand. If this was stated on the website we would not have booked. We purchased cutlery and crockery and used it for our stay but each morning at breakfast you were reminded how little Hilton value you. Other negatives were that half the staff were friendly and half were not. The color scheme makes it difficult to tell the level of cleanliness. The hotel needs a large notice on their web site to say you will be eating off paper with plastic for your stay. I try to be balanced in reviews but the whole experience was so damaged by the paper plates that it's hard to say what was good. To be fair the room was large, there was a bathtub, a fridge, and a microwave. The location is good and while there are many colorful characters in the street we never felt under any threat or danger. However, a hotel that expects you to eat off paper plates for a 12 days does not deserve any stars and does not respect its customers. I've had a reply from the hotel that this is their policy at all of their hotels. This only makes it worse.
Stay away
2.0Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans Downtown 226 Carondelet Street, New Orleans This is truly the worst hotel we have ever booked. The room was substandard: the carpet was dirty and the view was downright bad – we looked directly at a wall. Someone was smoking marijuana in the room next to us; the entire hallway smelled of it, and the hotel did nothing about it. The breakfast was an even bigger disappointment. We have never been treated so rudely. A young woman who worked there (quite large, long hair, wearing a denim jacket) was extremely impolite. While refilling the batter, she was happily doing her nails and chatting with the maintenance staff. Only after a long time – and at a snail's pace – did she decide to refill it. The same woman was approached by several guests because the coffee had run out. Instead of solving this immediately, she first did other things such as refilling spoons and forks and neatly arranging the salt and pepper shakers. When I finally asked her why she wasn't refilling the coffee, I received the answer: "Leave me alone." Another guest and I looked at each other in disbelief. We reported this directly to the hotel manager, but I doubt anything will be done about it. If staff members say this to us, it will undoubtedly happen more often. The reception staff also urgently need hospitality training. They were friendly to American guests, but clearly not to us – that is unacceptable. We have previously enjoyed staying at Hampton hotels in Nashville, Memphis, and Tupelo, but this branch in New Orleans unfortunately ruined part of our trip. Our advice: stay away from this place.
