Decent but not great

6.0

I had a conference here. Not a great welcome but my room was ready early. Was told I needed to have transportation to my room since it was far but literally was a 2 minute walk. No elevators so walk up to the 2nd floor. Room was quite dark. One window faces corridor so need to keep the shade down. Only one lamp and 2 small reading lights by the bed. Wanted to get a drink by the pool after my meeting but apparently things close up at 7. Bartender wasn't terribly accommodating. There are nice places just across the street ftom the hotel. Could not sleep because fan wouldn't turn off and was very loud all night. Tried to stuff pillows on the fan but it was a miserable night. Ok for work but wouldn't stay for leisure.

Blown away - pools, aesthetic, service

10.0

I was blown away by this hotel. Top notch staff, incredible food at the restaurant ( a bit pricy - 50 for half a chicken is doing too much and im used to NYC prices) however it was exquisite. I chose this place because it was dog friendly primarily and I was so happy that my dog could come into the restaurant was greeted in the lobby w a homemade dog treat and doted on by staff. I had made a reservation at another kimpton since i was on a road trip but decided to stay here an extra night because thats how lovely it was. I called kimpton and they moved my reservation over no problem and at no cost. Incredible customer service. The property is expansive and sprawling with renovated rooms that have high finishes while still keeping (what I can imagine) is the original charm of the property. Incredibly well manicured/landscaped. 10/10 recommendation.

Renovations Look Good -- Little Things To Consider

8.0

Stayed here July 4th one night before departing Phoenix airport the following morning. We choose this hotel based on points booked through Southwest Airlines Hotel portal. Overall -- Nice hotel in the Scottsdale. Room -- we booked a Valley 2-story Villa. When we checked in we got a 1-bedroom Canyon Villa -- different than we book and I didn't realize it until we had already unpacked. Not a big deal, but no explanation at check-in and that was what was assigned to us. Room 915 is a 1-bedroom villa -- no kitchen, but had a table, sofa, chairs, and refrigerator. The bedding was nice and the bed slept comfortably. The room renovations are nice, but you can tell not everything was updated -- Doors seem to received a fresh coat of paint, but seemingly original as to how they open and closed; paint on the floor that was never cleaned up; a cool night-time solar orb by the door, but looked dirty. We did not have any hand soap for the bathroom sink -- I'm guessing housekeeping forgot to leave any. That said, though, the overall room was nice, spacious, and comfortable. Pool -- the main pool area in the center of the property seem to be very nice -- and new, I believe, as part of the renovation. There are 3 pools and a large hot tub in this area. We were able to find a place to sit and enjoyed using the pool and sitting outdoors. I went to the CIMA pool bar to get drinks, as pool wait staff were a bit un-attentive. I didn't realize it until the following morning, but the bartender added a $3 "mixing fee" to each drink we had. (I asked at checkout what this was for and got a lame answer -- we had standard drinks off the menu, no extra alcohol or mixes were requested -- and they didn't want to remove those fees). Not worth the hassle to fight it...Just watch your tab before you leave the restaurant or bar areas--and ask about questionable charges. The drinks were average -- a Mule and a Margarita -- too much ice for my liking, and nothing really special about them. Social Hour -- had a glass of wine in the social hour area -- no chairs or tables in the area. Only one appetizer offered (decent, but again, average). Our white wine was served in a clear glass coffee mug -- seemed odd. They need to get a better plan to host their social hour. No one wants to stand without a high-top or a table to sit at, along with appropriate drinkware and appetizers. Restaurant--we had breakfast in the morning at Hecho Libre before departing to the airport. We sat outside as it was cool enough in the morning. We each had standard breakfast-- eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes and coffee. Breakfast was good. The wait staff was attentive and cordial. I give breakfast and the restaurant high marks even though we only ate there once -- I can't speak for lunch or dinner experiences. Overall -- the property is still under renovation in some areas but it didn't really impact our stay. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. Looks like there has been considerable investment in the property. But, as someone else said in a prior review, there are lots of similar-class properties in the Scottsdale area -- and while our overall stay was mostly positive, it's the little things that can stick in the back of your mind about the overall experience. I'd consider going back, but would also look at other properties in the area before deciding.

Beautiful property and Insta worthy!!

10.0

Loved everything about my stay! I rented a car because it was free to park, but didn’t need to. They had bike rentals and lots of shops and restaurants across the street. The pool had several areas to find shade and enjoy yourself. Pool bartenders were kind and attentive. I’ll definitely come back!

I’m a pillow snob and the pillows were a little stiff for me. I texted the hotel number they gave me and they sent me a fluffier pillow to my room!!
