Listen, you get what you pay for. And this isn’t an awful hotel. The lobby and public areas are very nice. The rooms are very dated, giving recently renovated Motel 6 vibes. It’s comfortable but dated. That’s fine. However the reason I’m giving this such a low score is because everything else is a mess. Specifically, the lack of safety I felt while a guest there. Shortly after checking in, I was lying comfortably on the bed mid way through changing to get ready for the pool. I’m just sitting there, and other couple opens the door, sees me half naked, and yells at me for being in their room. I tell them to get out. It turns out the front desk forgot to check me in despite giving me a key card for my room, so another couple got a key for my room. On top of that I was told I was in the wrong room. They offered to upgrade me, but I’m already unpacked and we’re there for one night. And it’s not like the upgrades get you a better quality room - you’re either closer to the pool where children and screaming and cannon balling at all outs, or you’re by the swamp. On top of that, every time, for the remainder of my stay, my key card worked exactly once. I would have to go down to the front desk every time I left my room to get a new key card. They blamed me for being magnetic. Whatever. Listen, I acknowledge I’m being harsh, but when it comes down to it I felt unsafe. My only two criteria when it comes to hotels are 1) are they clean? And 2) are they safe? It failed at one of those, so this hotel failed. But hey, at least the other guests got to a free show.

If you want something near the water in Hilo that you can walk around pick this hotel!

Everything was really cute! Rooms were updated and very sustainable. Pool was a highlight! Could walk to different resturants!

Gem of a Hotel

This is a gem of a hotel in Hilo. My friend and I visited for a few days before we traveled to Volcano National Park. Staff were friendly and helpful, and they have a cute store where you can buy snacks and other goodies. It's in an area with a ton of restaurants nearby, and it's close to Rainbow Falls, OK Farms, and Akaka Falls. Perfect location. It's a great value-rooms were clean, the gardens were beautiful, and the lobby was a wonderful place to just sit and have coffee. Thank you again, SCP Hilo!

Very Ideal Location in Hilo Town , close to the ocean and natural saltwater ponds. Perfect for walking around the historic Banyan Drive.. Clean and friendly service at SPC.. Great complimentary coffee ☕️ too . Can’t wait to go back..

Nice hotel, convenient location, great boutique vibe

The property is nicely renovated and common areas are great. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the different wings with beautiful landscaping

− Rooms were a little sparse and on the older side but beds were comfortable and linens clean. AC was noisy and not very strong, but with the ceiling fan running simultaneously the room was comfortable.
