A gem of a pit-stop on a long road trip with my pup

10.0

I loved this hotel so much and I wish I were staying longer. I was on a long roadtrip from San Francisco to Vancouver (BC) and needed a pit-stop with my dog so booked this place based on the stellar reviews. And boy it delivered. I was lucky to get a rate with parking included, and from the moment I pulled up everything was so smooth and easy. And my dog was treated like a very welcome guest - no issues at all (and no weird hidden pet fees). The room I got, a Queen studio, was large and light-filled with views of the Wilamette, a sitting area, and so warmly decorated. I wish I had more time to sleep in and read a book in bed. The location was also perfect for having a dog - a big open field right next door and a waterside walkway with places to eat and shop. I would definitely come here again, and next time for a longer time

What an EXCEPTIONAL hotel!!!

10.0

The hotel was EXQUISITE...there were quite a few stairs involved (sometimes I felt kind of like I was mountain climbing BUT the VIEW & the room itself were TOTALLY worth the effort!! The staff was just FANTASTIC & SO attentive that I felt UTTERLY pampered!!! If you're looking for a TRULY lovely place to stay in Portland OR, then you owe it to yourself to experience this hotel. Not only because it is GORGEOUS but also because it's location is quite handy & many types of businesses are within easy walking distance...ENJOY!!!

There was NOTHING to dislike as far as I am concerned...your hotel & it's staff were WONDERFUL!!!

Run down + not up to standards

4.0

Firstly, the staff is very kind, accommodating, and hardworking; they are the only reason this review is not 1 star. We really appreciated everyone from the valets, front desk staff, cleaning folks, and restaurant team. Secondly, this is not an up-to-standard Kimpton property. I saw reviews explaining this, but I didn't heed the warnings, and it was rough. The value per night and consistency of experience are greatly lacking. Cons - Overall, it is extremely tired and worn; public spaces, rooms, and "gardens" are very run-down. - Room 530 smelled like cigarette smoke, and we had to change rooms. This was a huge hassle, but the front desk staff were champs. - We stayed in a top-floor River Front "Cottage". They are really more like old-timey townhouses with shared walls and guests below. Strangely, the hotel stages all of the cleaning supplies at the base of the stairs of each building; there was pretty much always a huge amount of trash and debris spilling all over the place, basically at one's doorstep if you were staying on the 1st floor. It is very unappealing and off-putting. _ In our new room 520, the bathrooms and many aspects of the rooms were just plain worn out and should be attended to. - We bought the breakfast package and could not use it each day because the line was so long (15 to 45 min wait times). Kimpton obviously doesn't hire enough staff. Also, they say that the breakfast is covered, but it is only a $50 a day credit total; no one informed us of this, and it is not described anywhere that we could see; the meals were always $80+, and we had 1 entree each and coffee. - There is an absurd Guest Amenity Fee of $35 each day, for what we don't know. There is no pool, hot tub, or exclusive amenities that make this make sense. - You cannot park for free in the near vicinity, and valet is expensive at $60/day. Pros - The staff went above and beyond. - The gym was usable. - Dog friendly. - When we could actually get breakfast, the food was good.

Getting Away to/in Your PNW backyard at a Retreat

10.0

Yes, the location is wonderful, but it's the staff that really make this place a retreat. Even my dumbest attempts at romance for my guest were met with enthusiasm and creativity.

A Splendid Hotel

10.0

Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel is a grand old hotel and we loved our stay here. From the moment we arrived, every person on staff made us feel welcome, and Matt at the front desk was especially helpful and generous from first to last. Our suite was clean, comfortable, and tastefully furnished. The simplicity and ease with which we could cool or heat our rooms was especially appreciated. A little sign in the bathroom lists several things you might have forgotten and a reasurring -- "We have it!" -- no worries. The King Tide Restaurant at the hotel is pricey but offered excellent options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has a friendly and attentive wait staff. The location of RiverPlace, right on the Tom McCall Waterfront Greenway, is womderful. There are spectacular views of the Willamette River, the marina, and the bridges over the river. We watched the dragon boat teams gather and do their warm-up exercises before going down the ramp to the pier and their fierce, ornate dragon boats. There is a big park at one end of the Greenway, and a wide, tree-lined walkway provides an easy walk to cafes and the small, well-stocked Marina Market, with plenty of items a traveler might need, as well as wine, cheese, jams, chocolates and other goodies a traveler might enjoy. At the other end of the walkway is a lovely garden where one can meander, rest, or play with friends and family on the little lawn areas. We will definitely return to Kimpton RiverPlace. It's a fine hotel staffed by lovely people, situated in an especially beautiful place in Portland, one of our favorite cities.
