Horrible. Outdated. Construction. Overpriced.

2.0

Major major construction. Extremely loud. Our room had jackhammers and loud trucks right outside the balcony. Upon booking, there was no warning that there would be major construction. Misleading. Very outdated. I felt like I was at an old Vegas hotel circa 1990! Regarding outdoor services, we went to get drinks at night and asked if they could turn on one of the outdoor fire pits and they said they were all out of propane except for 2, and that the rest were broken. Why advertise that you have all these amenities but then have them be out of order. Then the bartender said they would turn on a heater for us but never did! When we showered the drain in the shower backed up spewing out HAIR. Disgusting. Engineering had to come up at 10 pm along with housekeeping. We had 2 wet kids extremely exhausted that needed to take a shower. We paid well over $500 and would’ve gotten better service and rooms at a 2 star hotel, this hotel is by NO means a 4 star hotel, do not stay here if you have standards. Or if you do, lower your standards. This is by far one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at. I never post reviews but doing so this time out of fairness for future consumers. If I could give this 0 stars, I would.

I Wouldn't Consider Returning Until Renovation is Completed

4.0

We made our 3-night reservation in February 2026 through Booking.com. In all the correspondence that we received from both Booking.com and the Laguna Cliffs Marrott there was never any mention of on a "major renovation" taking place. We arrived on July 10th and our view room overlooked major reconstruction. Luckily, we were there for a Friday through Monday stay and there was no ongoing construction on the weekend.........that began on Monday-Friday. Had i known that major renovation was occurring I would have cancelled my reservation and returned once it was completed. In my opinion Marriott management was deceptive in not divulging the extent of the renovation. On the positive side, the staff was professional and responsive and the breakfast was one of the best that we have experienced at any resort. The jury is out as to whether we will return once the renovation is complete.

A Great Disappointment

3.0

Staff was very professional and responsive. The complimentary breakfast was one of the best that we have experienced at any resort.

The Resort was under major renovation. That fact affected my scoring above. Neither Booking.com nor the Resort notified me of this fact. Had I been so notified, I would have cancelled my reservation and returned once the renovation was completed. My "view room" had a view of buildings under construction. I feel Marriott management was deceptive in not notifying booked guests that "major renovation" was occurring..

Horrible Experience Avoid At All Costs

4.0

I had a truly dreadful experience at Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa and I would AVOID STAYING AT THIS MARRIOTT AT ALL COSTS. I would have literally been better off sleeping in a car rather than stepping foot into this Marriott. For reference I stayed at this location checking in on a Friday and checking out on Sunday in May 2026 for an event I was attending close by. I booked this location assuming it would be a luxury resort especially given the high price per night required for a booking which I paid without any discount or promotions. I knew before going to this location that the event I was attending would make up most of my daytime and I would be pretty much be using the resort to freshen up and and rest outside of the majority of time I spent attending my event. In the few days I stayed at this Marriott let me give you a detailed insight on my experience, of my stay. Postives: 1. Beautiful location with a magnificent view of the ocean. 2. Staff are relatively friendly and approachable. 3. Rooms are sizeable and well structured for overnight stays. 4. Has an average paid option for breakfast that is very convenient. Negatives: 1. The worst of everything that happened to me while I was staying at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa was the bed bugs. The bed bugs got to bite me my whole visit at the "resort" which really made me question if the resort experience was for me or the bed bugs. Even worse for me, I got a nice amount of hitchhiker bedbugs in my bag back to my home, where I spent the weeks not only recovering from the dozens of bedbug bites everywhere on my body, but making sure everything was decontaminated with extra precautions required by me after I left Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa to make sure I didn't get a bedbug infestation in my own home. This alone made this experience hellish, the amount of time, work, money, and energy I spent dealing with this issue alone was so horrendous, to the point of me rethinking if I ever want to set foot in a Marriott ever again without taking extreme precautions. I have stayed in hostels in developing countries and not ever had an experience this bad. Having to pay to deal with horrible bedbugs not only at this resort but extending to my own peaceful home was so revolting and infuriating I cannot fully articulate the pain I went through. 2. Cleanliness though on appearance everything seems great, it is suspect at best. Besides the bed bug problem I had while living at this Marriott, I got another little surprise on my last night staying at this hotel. When opening one of the curtains facing the ocean, what dropped onto the floor was an OPENED CONDOM. This was not only horrifying and disgusting, but made me question my safety while staying at this so-called resort as a woman traveling alone. This happening after spending a long day at my event was so unsettling, and I was on the verge of just finding other last minute accommodations, but was so exhausted from my 12+ hour busy day event when I found it at night, I just barricaded the front door with my luggage with the goal of getting out of this location ASAP in the morning. 3. Though most people may be ok with this, I am a relatively light sleeper, but when I went to this Marriott location there was a constant metal on metal clinging sound right outside my room window that drove me absolutely crazy. I could never find the source and it happened in some random pattern but it was so infuriating hearing the noise all night long for every single night I slept at this Marriott. After a long and busy day it was so annoying to not even be able to get a restful night's sleep. In addition to this, one of the nights I came to my hotel to the sound of loud sirens due to a supposed water leak. The staff at no point would tell us the reason for the alarm or to warn us about the water leak. I only found out about the reason for the incessant alarm by another guest who was directly affected by the leak. 4. The amenities are bare bone and I got seemingly only a luke warm shower with long heat up periods. Also I know it's not necessarily standard everywhere but there was no complimentary conditioner, shampoo, or any toiletries to use. Thankfully I had packed my own, but when paying resort prices small amenities not being present feels like you are being needlessly nickel and dimed. 5. Another minor gripe is a vague resort fee will be forced down your throat for every night whether you use resort amenities or not. It's feels especially petty given the rooms are priced high and on top of that you are required to pay an additional fee. I saw very few people on the resort pool side deck making me think this Marriott is just forcing the resort fee on all their guests to forcibly extract more money from their guests without raising their room rate at face value. The hotel was under construction at the time of my stay and it was very disruptive especially it being right outside my room. 5. Though the staff was mostly friendly, hotel management was also supbar based on my experience with the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa. Beware when you leave this location, Marriott has an automated system that will keep prompting you for a review. Usually I'm non-confrontational and will almost never complain, but because of the extent of the horrible experience I had, after the third prompt asking me how my experience was, I actually took the time to fill out their survey giving my true perspective my my "experience" at Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa. Other than spam calling me in the middle of the day while I was working, they sent a very vague corporate apology apologizing for my "inconvenience" with no follow up at all. If you are brave and dare stay at this location don't expect anything will be done for you or fixed afterward if you have a bad experience. You will have a better chance of winning the lottery jackpot, than having any accountability or concern be shown by the management of Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa. Bad experiences will be collected and subsequently ignored and swept under the rug to be never addressed ever or fixed for future guests to deal with. In conclusion I would not even recommend this resort to even my worst enemy. This was truly a horrendous experience during and after my stay at the resort especially, and unless you want to pay over $600+ a night (when I went) without taxes to be tortured I could never ever ever recommend this place. For the brave souls that gamble, and stay here I wish you the best of luck not ending up in my situation or worse at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa. As for me, I will hope I never am in a position that I have to stay at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa for the rest of my life.

Hotel under construction , yet no fees are reduced. Using large gym as a restaurant and now only have a super small gym.

4.0

Hotel is going thru construction. Shame on you marriot. Using the large nice gym as a restaurant and a super small gym is used. Seems resorts fees should be reduced or not charged. I’ve stayed here before and now you change the name to reflect Laguna cliffs resort when it’s in dana pt so you can overcharge. Gouge those tourists that don’t know any better. Carlsbad has some awesome hotels and resorts. I’m disappointed platinum elite member.

Hotel was good Michael Reichman is the difference maker

10.0

Look the hotel is nice and all. Amazing location great view everything was good to great but the star here is their assistant F&B guy MICHAEL Reichman. We were there for 2 nights and he made our group feel extremely accommodating. When he found out it was our daughter’s bday he went above and beyond for her. I own several other high end hotels myself and I can tell you from what I saw of Michael I have never seen any other hotel employee hustle as much as he did. Also it wasn’t just for us he was like this with every guest! We usually stay at the ritz Carlton for quick local getaways nearby but his service was so good I’m going to move our trips here from now on.
