Loud Upstairs Bungalow Guests & Paper thin Ceiling - Beware!
4.0We had more of a bad experience, than a good experience at Royal Lahaina. First, regardless of what site you book with, even the main Royal Lahaina site, it will let you book a tower room with 3 people, and still give you the option to book a King Bed only. Even when you select Child > 14 years old, it still keeps the king room option, giving you the impression that there's a couch or rollout available. It shouldn't. It should remove the King bed option and only show the 2 double beds. The front desk at check-in said there were no rollout options, while reading reviews on TravelAdvisor that there were availble. At the time we were told the only option was to upgrade to a bungalow, where the receptionist told us we could get it, but it was still an additional $500 for our stay. We had no choice but to accept. The discount was ok, but we didnt account for this in our budget. (At the pool one day, we were chatting with other guests that both shared they were told something witht heir room they paid for was sold out, and were upsold to something else) The bungalows are structurally flawed. We were in a middle Bungalow on the ground floor. The bungalows are 2 story, with an entire suite taking all upstairs. They look great, and are setup nicely, but what separates ground floor and upstairs is a wooden floor/ceiling. The floors upstair are laminate floor. We had a family upstairs and we heard kids running LOUDLY starting at 5am local time, and all during the day. We called the front desk to complain, they said they would inform Security, but nothing changed. I can guarantee you that this complaint comes in every day, every week. There's no way that other guests are ok with the clear noise issue when staying on the ground floor in a bungalow. The floors upstairs should be cement, or rebuilt correclty to suppress sound from upstairs. Our stay sucked more than it was good. We were tired during the day because of being kept up by what sounded like donkeys running around doing parkour upstairs. The property has tons of potential. I like the bungalows and open layout. The small pools are really cool; gives you less of the mega hotel property aura and more of the chill and mellow vibe. I appreciated this as I could walk a real short distance to get a beer or mai-tai, or even jump in the waves. The restaurant could be improved a bit more. The interior is a bit of let down while the food was actually pretty good. Perhaps expanding the small coffee bar to have a few more options for breakfast, lunch, and late snack. The coffee in Royal Scoop is actually not bad. As much as it was a nice place to stay, i would not stay in a bungalow ever again. Not with the chance of having loud guests upstairs. I'm not sure if i would ever return, honestly.
Awesome views
10.02nd time staying. Will continue to come back and stay.
Very nice hotel, close to the beach front.
8.0We didn't have a car so didn't really benefit from the location to explore the island but that was fine as it was the last island on our trip. Hotel was great good food, clean rooms and lovely grounds.
− Our only observation was the lack of staff serving customers at reception, at times in the restaurant and in the coffee / ice cream house just causing queues and for some frustration. A high class problem but as this was gearing up to peak holiday season we were surprised that the hotel had only one person, often at peak times during the day, providing help. The service was great when you received it but it struck as a money saving exercise, placing more pressure on the staff available which was disappointing given the class of hotel.
Awesome
10.0It was very relaxing and the staff is wonderful
An invitation to relax
10.0Location and atmosphere was so relaxing. Loved that we were just north of Black rock on a less busy part of the beach but still close enough to walk to Whalers Village for restaurants and shopping. Loved our tower room with partial ocean view. Just a beautiful hotel and grounds.
