Beware - Large scale, active construction site immediately next to Villa

The villa itself is very modern, spacious and clean with a nice pool.

− Major Construction & Loss of Privacy: Beware, as of July 2026 there’s an active, large-scale multi-story hotel building site directly next to the villa which was not disclosed to us prior to arrival. Continuous heavy-duty industrial cranes, diggers, cement mixers, loud drilling and shouting woke us up at 7:00am daily and ran constantly until 3:00pm, completely ruining our holiday. Up to 20 construction workers have a direct line of sight into the patio, pool area, hot tub, and bedrooms. Constant construction dust covered the outdoor floor, seating and sun loungers, and the water supply was cut off for the majority of one of the days. Host: We were deeply disappointed with the hosts when we raised these issues. They were rude, showed a complete lack of empathy, and offered no constructive help giving us an ultimatum to either accept a token single night's discount or find emergency peak-season accommodation ourselves with two young children which wasn't an option. We refused both as this nowhere near reflected the impact on our stay, and we are currently assessing our next steps. We were also accused of ‘just being after money'. The hosts would have been fully aware that this construction was happening but chose not to disclose it and we are fully within our rights to expect appropriate compensation when the service we paid a premium for did not match what they advertised. Additional Issues: Air conditioning is very weak, there was an ant infestation, the cleaner failed to turn up on one of the scheduled days, and the outdoor wooden furniture urgently needs replacing (one chair arm broke off while my 4-year-old was sitting on it and the dining table wobbles). Furthermore, a neighboring 3-story residential block has a direct view into the pool and patio area. Once complete, the new multi-story hotel complex next door will leave this villa completely overlooked.

Das kleine Ferienhaus ist insgesamt sehr modern und extrem gut eingerichtet. Die Ausstattung Innen und Außen war sehr neuwertig und wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt. Gute Betten und schöne Zimmer. Ausstattung der Küche war besonders gut. - Parkplatz vor der Tür vorhanden. - Einkaufsläden und Bäcker fußläufig in 3 bis 5 Minuten zu erreichen. - WLAN funktioniert sehr stabil und gut. - Bietet eine sehr gute Ausgangslage für Ausflüge mit dem Auto zu den verschiedenen Stränden im Westen und Südwesten Kretas. - Wanderwege durch die Olivenplantage in der Nähe.

− - Die Umgebung des Hauses ist extrem touristisch und nicht wirklich schön. Dient aber als gute Basis für Ausflüge und das Haus selbst mit Pool ist schön. - Nach 5 Tagen hatten wir ziemlich viel Müll und wussten nicht wirklich wohin damit. - Staubsauger zur Reinigung wäre sinnvoll. - Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter war mir fast schon ein wenig zu viel.

Die Villa war ein echter Traum! Der Pool und der Jacuzzi waren perfekt für die Entspannung und sehr gut gepflegt. Die Villa ist top ausgestattet und sehr sauber, es war alles da was man brauchen könnte. Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen. Nah am Strand, an zahlreichen Tavernen und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Perfekt für vier Erwachsene. Wir hatten einen absolut entspannten Urlaub und können diese Unterkunft wärmstens empfehlen!

We had a superb stay at the Sun Ray Beach Life Villa. Would definitely come back if we were in the Chania area again. There were four of us (parents with 2 adult children) and the villa was the perfect size. The villa was clean, extremely well appointed, showing no signs of wear and tear despite our stay being relatively late in the season. The wifi was reliable and fast, and so was the air-conditioning. Our liaison, Eva, was extremely helpful and friendly, and answered the few queries we had promptly. The pool was great, as was the jacuzzi. The location was brilliant - we didn't have a car, but it didn't matter. The villa is about 4 minutes walk from a supermarket and the "main drag" of Agia Marina, with plenty of decent restaurants, and maybe another minute's walk to the (very nice) beach and seafront, but it is set back from the main street and feels nicely private. Would have no hesitation at all in recommending.

− Honestly I wouldn't change anything.

The location was perfect, the owners were amazing hosts. Always there for support. The rooms were perfect sizes. Very relaxing clean and spacious. It had everything we needed and more.

The house looks exactly as shown in the pictures (only plants have grown a little bigger). The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. The pool und sunbeds are facing south and are great for relaxation. The hot tube is perfect on chill October nights. BBQ is huge. Interior is tasteful, kitchen is large, beds are comfy, shower hot and strong. Windows let sunshine in, curtains keep it dark, mosquito nets work well. House was spotless clean, parking easy. Large TV with Netflix, Prime etc. Fireplace is only decorative. Large dining tables inside and outside. Nice couch. Many restaurants, mini markets, bakeries and shops in walking distance. Lidl 2km away. Beach also in walking distance. We really enjoyed dinner at Nymfi restaurant, which is only 150m away. In summary, nothing to complain and we look forward to coming back! Many thanks again!
