Convenient location with private beach

− Restaurant/bar closed too early considering it was summer

The suites are a good size. It's a more dated property but overall just lovely. Great pool space and the pool was actually refreshing! Loved the tiki bar and it was nice to have food on site. The hotel is ON the beach and all rooms with ocean views. Loved that and I will definitely return.

− The bed was fine however the linens were terrible. thin and scratchy. Next time I would bring my own sheets.

Parking under cover. Room setup with two toilets and sinks. Enough luggage rack when needed. Elevators were quick.

− Not enough pillows in the pool area. The TV directions were confusing and not needed after the TV technician adjusted things. It should have been that way to begin with. Menu in room should match that in the restaurant. Would have liked to purchase a pastry somewhere.

The view and location.

− During my stay at Shell Island, I was disappointed with the overall condition of both the room and the property. The accommodations were noticeably worn and in need of significant maintenance and updates. In my room, the toilet was loose, the floor grout was stained, dirty, and deteriorating in several areas, the towel holders were rusted, and the shower head was extremely loose. The kitchen sink faucet was cracked, and the bed sheets had visible stains. The bedroom window was old, did not seal properly, and appeared insecure, allowing outside air and noise into the room, which made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Beyond the room itself, the property's overall maintenance was also lacking. Trash cans throughout the property were consistently overflowing, creating an unkempt appearance. During my stay, the atrium in the main lobby had an active leak that left puddles of water on the floor. I was also surprised that there were no drinking water fountains or filtered water stations available anywhere on the property. In fact, members of the staff specifically advised guests not to drink the tap water in the rooms, making the lack of an alternative source of drinking water even more concerning. Overall, the location of the property is excellent, but the condition of the accommodations and the deferred maintenance significantly detracted from the experience. With meaningful renovations, improved housekeeping standards, and better attention to routine maintenance, Shell Island could provide a much more enjoyable stay that better reflects its beachfront location.
