Disappointed- it was like the hotel was not quite ready to reopen. Many kind staff members, they handled these issues th
7.0Great location and many aspects of the remodel were very nice.
− We had a wedding block and several guests had a terrible time with the air conditioning in their rooms. The weather was warm, but a hotel of this nature and cost should have an air conditioning system that works flawlessly. One of the elevators was not in service… my first room had a portable air conditioning system installed in the room, which kept us up all night. We were able to move to another room, but I was shocked that the staff would put a parent of the bride in a room with a portable air conditioner! Moving to another room was not what I wanted to be doing on the morning of such a significant day in our lives.
It was a complete and utter disappointment peppered with blatant incompetence.
1.0Absolutely nothing.
− It was a terrible experience from start to finish. Did not even stay the night. Had to find a valet person upon arrival; ridiculous conquest since they make you pay extra for them to park your car. We waited almost an hour to check in in a hot lobby. When I brought up my dissatisfaction to the front desk lady about the wait and the valet charge, she shrugged her shoulders and didn't care. I booked a 2 queen bed SUITE with a pullout bed. We opened the room door to a 1 bed "junior suite" as they called it. No couch. No second bed. Not what I booked. Not happy. They want luxury rates for a Holiday Inn experience. Not OK!!! Already aggravated about the lobby situation, and then this?! We went right back downstairs to complain. The line still snaking around the hot lobby to the door. When I got the incompetent desk lady's attention I told her what had happened and her response was, "we gave you what was available. Its a junior suite." I said, no that's not what I booked OVER A MONTH AGO! Don't tell me that that is "what you had available." This was not a last minute reservation! Needless to say, after much back and forth, we cancelled and left. It should be no surprise what I had to do next...you guessed it...GO FIND A VALET PERSON AGAIN. The only manager in sight was the Food and Beverage and he was just as incompetent as the rest of them. When I asked for help with the valet he proceeded to point me to their desk. I said I know where the valet desk is...I NEED A VALET!! It was an awful experience all around; OH and not to mention that the air conditioner was broken in 90% of the hotel, INCLUDING MOST OF THE ROOMS..DURING A HEATWAVE! Just renovated AND celebrating their 100th year in business. Total embarrassment. Total failure. DO NOT waste your time and money at this DUMP! Oh and not to mention, everyone else in the hotel and lobby was complaining about the exact same things. Go read the other reviews.
Best place in Newport

Lipstick on a Pig
2.0Terrible experience here, and I’m only on night 1 of 3. Currently looking for other hotels in Newport to pack up and move. I’ve had a king room booked since February, and a few weeks back I called to make it a suite with a king bed and pullout coach because my 13 year old son was joining us now. They said “all set - we made the change”. Upon arrival, come to find out they didn’t make the change and so we are crammed in a room with a cot for my son. I’m not even against cots in general, but you can’t even walk anywhere in the room with it in here, and the cot smells like mildew. That’s not even the worst part - the AC went out today and the room is 78 degrees. The pool had no towels (I had to go to the front desk to request some), the pool railing to get into the pool was broken, the paint on the ceiling is chipping and filling off, the towel in my room was dirty, the speakers upstairs at the Cap Club were burned out and half the drinks on the menu weren’t available because of some machine that was broken. It’s crazy that they can charge ppl $800 + a night for this. I come to Newport every 4th and was excited to try this hotel but I will never be back - and I would NOT recommend this to anyone else. I wish I had read some of the other reviews before coming because I would have thought twice before booking. Save your money - or if you are looking for something high end…try something else Forty One North is nice, Goat Island, the Marriott, Bretton….literally anything is better than what we have experienced here. Seems like they are just here to take people’s money and no one is actually managing the building or customer experience.
Would give this zero stars if I could
2.0Checked in today (July 3rd) at 12:30 during the middle of the heat wave. AC wasn’t working and the room was 85 degrees. Called front desk and they said they would fix it. Came back from lunch, room was still 85. Front desks topped answering the phone so went in person multiple times to request a fix. Eventually had to leave the hotel with my 8 month old baby, who was red faced and screaming. Was told hotel would call me when it was fixed. No call by 5:30 pm so I keep trying to call the front desk. The number on the website goes to sales desk voicemail. I drive back to the hotel to see a 20-person deep front desk line. Befriend others in the lobby whose AC hadn’t been working since the night before. Realize the hotel was completely disingenuous about this being a quick fix as the lobby is filled with dozens of people whose rooms don’t have AC on one of the worst heatwaves in recent history. I had to wait another hour for the “room director” to come talk to me and give me the correct front desk number so Expedia can contact the hotel for my refund. Completely disgusted by the way this was handled.
Miserable experience in the heat
4.0The recent renovations are certainly a nice improvement, but the air conditioning at this old hotel has been terrible. Our room was 85 degrees last night, making for a miserable experience. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any viable solution. The front desk was unhelpful.
