Beautiful Views but needs updating
6.0**Bottom Line Up Front:** I wouldn't stay here again. Location: This is, without a doubt, the hotel's biggest selling point. It's the only hotel located inside the park, making it incredibly convenient to walk to the falls and other attractions. Room: The room was very small, dated, and had a strong moldy smell. The odor was bad enough that we requested a room change. Our second room was only slightly better, although the rooms on the higher floors seemed to be in better condition. Staff: Hospitality was inconsistent. The check-in staff wasn't particularly welcoming, but the housekeeping team was extremely helpful, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay. Pool: The pool was well staffed, and service was readily available. The pool area is on the smaller side, so it can get crowded, but I actually enjoyed spending time there more than I did in my room. Breakfast: Breakfast offered a great variety of options and was something I genuinely looked forward to each morning. Overall: Although this hotel is marketed as a luxury property, it fell short of my expectations. The inconsistent service and dated, subpar accommodations didn't justify the luxury designation. The unbeatable location—being able to walk to the falls and the park's food court—was a major advantage, but it wasn't enough to outweigh the negatives. I wouldn't stay here again unless the property undergoes a significant renovation.
World Class Hospitality Blended with the backdrop of Iguazu Falls
10.0My husband and I were looking for a special place to ring in our milestone birthdays last month and I can’t recommend the Gran Melia highly enough! From the moment we walked into the lobby, we were met with a welcome drink, friendly front desk staff and helpful bellman who gave us a tour of the property along with tips and guidance for the best ways to explore Iguazu Falls. The property is absolutely breathtaking as the design and décor blend seamlessly with the natural environment of the Iguazu backdrop. Even the hallways smell amazing as they are infused with one of the special scents that is unique to the area. We walked into our room which had spectacular views of Iguazu Falls in the background and were greeted by a few monkeys that were climbing on our balcony chairs. It was truly like a scene out of the movies! We had 3 incredible days to explore the Iguazu Falls from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Photos simply don’t do the views and scenery justice as it was awe-inspiring!! Our visit coincided with record rainfall where the water levels were at 4x the normal so the Falls were incredible!! You simply can't beat the location of the hotel as it is located inside the park, just steps away from the paths to the Upper and Lower Circuit of the Falls! We watched the World Cup matches on the large TV screen in the bar area and the bar service was top notch. I wish I could remember the bartender and waiter’s names at Bar Merkado as they were so friendly and remembered our drink orders and made us feel at home. They surprised my husband with a special birthday cake on his birthday and the whole bar sang "Happy Birthday" to him in English and Spanish! The caipirinhas and caipirivodkas at Bar Merkado were the best we had on our three-city trip! Every morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet with the freshest breads, pastries, fruit, waffles, eggs, breakfast meats and delicious coffee. The breakfast buffet has something for everyone. My husband isn’t a breakfast person and even he was excited about starting his day at the buffet! On our last night, we dined at the Merkado Special Grill. Wow, the meal was absolutely delicious and two weeks later we are still talking about it! Due to the excessive rainfall one day we stayed at the hotel and I enjoyed a pampering massage from Magdalena who was an incredible masseuse! My husband and I have traveled around the world and we always believe that it is the people that make the place. The Argentinian hospitality was an A+++! Everyone at the hotel was so warm and welcoming and made us feel at home, despite being 6000 miles away! Prior to our arrival, I exchanged several emails with the concierge, Lourdes, to make inquiries about airport transfers, guides and creating a memorable trip. She went above and beyond to respond to my questions, book the best guides and drivers, offer guidance on the best ways to view the Falls and so on. I can’t say enough positive things about her as it would have been an amazing trip on its own, but the personal touches from Lourdes were simply the icing on the cake! The Gran Melia is truly a world-class hotel amidst one of the wonders of the world and we hope to return someday with our children so they can experience the magic of Iguazu Falls at the Gran Melia!!
