Lovely and charismatic hostel with great facilities
9.0This is surely one of the top steals for a multi-day stay in the provincial town of Santa Rosa de Copán. Located in a quiet higher location at the edge of the historic part of town and next to a university campus with a breezy pine tree forest, his tranquil hostel features spacious well-maintained rooms, comfortable bedding and thoughtful interior decorating. Bathrooms are fine, with warm water and spotlessly clean tiles. The heart of the hostel is a wonderful indoor/outdoor patio with sofa's and rocking chairs. A mature garden offers great views and yet also privacy for the adjacent rooms. Melodious blackbirds and grackles try to annoy the grumpy cat that's trying to assert his territory. It's all quite lovely. Breakfast offers a range of choices that you can pick from the evening before, freshly cooked from 7AM onwards. Dinner options are also on the menu for those who prefer to stay in. The kitchen also caters to a cute café that is also run by the same owner, right next door to the hostel. Owner Juan Carlos is a gem; I don't know how this man does it, but he was always on whatsapp providing constructive help with most anything from getting travel recommendations to arranging cabs. Transport to the archaeological site of Copán or to the airport of San Pedro Sula are all options. He's clearly also quite loved by his employees and was often found around the hostel - I think he also lives close to the hostel. In terms of the neighbourhood, it's all quite safe, also in the evening. No weird vibes at all. Highly recommend this place, but probably good to book ahead of time.
− The cat was grumpy. Took some advanced petting skills to get his lukewarm attention. He also looked like he had a whole lot of life stories to share, but I got to hear none of them. 😉

10.0I had a great time staying at La Posada de Juan. Juan Carlos and his mom are amazing hosts. I can’t wait to come back!!! Highly recommended!!

A great choice in Santa Rosa de Copan
10.0This is an excellent small inn. I felt as though it lived up to its good reviews. Juan Carlos is a gracious and caring host who will go out of his way to make your stay enjoyable. In addition to simple, clean rooms there are comfortable common areas both inside and outside. Rooms are of average size, there is a/c plus a ceiling fan, (I stayed in March and never needed the a/c) and a small desk area with a chair. There’s an electrical outlet right at the desk. Bathrooms are fine. There's no hot water piped to the sink, but hot water in the shower is no problem. The location is very quiet, but it's a bit of a walk into the center. There are four options for breakfast daily. In addition, there is a cafe attached to the inn that serves lunch and dinner fare, as well as snacks, coffee and other beverages. Internet connectivity was slow, and reliability was sketchy while I was there. We also had a couple of power outages, which the inn can’t control, of course.
− There wasn't anything I disliked.
