Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward stay became unnecessarily frustrating.
1.0Responses from the host were generally prompt, the complimentary toothbrushes and toothpaste were a thoughtful touch, and the apartment lighting, especially the colour-changing lights, looked nice.
− Unfortunately, my experience at Velmora Suites was disappointing, due to the terrible check-in process and several issues during my stay. The biggest issue was being denied check-in because of the security deposit, which has to be transferred directly to their bank account rather than being held on your card like most hotels or serviced apartments. If I’d known this before booking, I wouldn’t have made the reservation. Booking.com stated that no additional payment was required, which was misleading. I was also asked to send a copy of my driver’s licence via WhatsApp. I raised concerns about the security of sending identity documents through WhatsApp and asked whether I could either use a secure upload portal or simply present my ID in person. Both options were refused, and I was denied access to the apartment for over an hour while trying to resolve the issue. This disrupted my plans considerably, and it took multiple calls with Booking.com customer support before I was finally allowed to check in. The listing also advertises free street parking, but in reality the nearby street parking is only free for two hours, so this wasn’t what I expected. During my stay, the shower initially had no hot water. After reporting it, the issue changed so that turning the tap towards cold actually shut the water off completely, making it impossible to get a comfortable shower temperature (I’ve got video proof of this). Other issues included very slow WiFi (the 5 GHz network was much better, but I only discovered this myself), no clear check-in or check-out instructions, and no information provided about the WiFi password until I asked. The kitchen was also missing lids for the pots and pans. The bed was not sturdy and firm at all and creaked noticeably whenever you moved, which affected comfort. One safety concern worth mentioning is the heated towel rail in the bathroom. It gets extremely hot and is positioned very close to the toilet.
