Clean, friendly, beautiful, expensive
8.0I stayed 5 nights. The location is great; you can walk to restaurants, shopping and the beach. Housekeeping every day without having to request it, although I didn’t need it every day. Any request I had was handled with quick and respectful response. The rooms are beautiful and clean. I found it hard to get out of bed because it was so comfortable! Although I was charged for parking when I didn’t even have a vehicle, this was immediately refunded once I brought it to the attention of the front desk. There is a fridge and coffee maker in the room, no microwave although I didn’t need one. I believe you can get one on request. Be aware that there is an “urban destination fee” of $40/day and additional taxes/fees attached to that charge as well as the fees on the room charge. Expect fees on fees. I felt the fees were excessive and this is why I didn’t give 5 stars. Overall, great location, friendly attentive staff, and very clean.
Lovely stay in the Gaslamp
10.0This hotel exceeded expectations….and I’m picky. There was so much that they got right. When we checked in Kevin and Jimmy asked what we were in town for and we told them our daughter’s birthday…they were kind enough to offer a breakfast voucher. When we returned to our room later that day…they had sent a lovely note and sweet treat for her. She’s 15…they’re hard to impress ( iykyk) and she felt special. Cody who helped us with our bags was also delightful. About two hours after we arrived I was having a bit of trouble understanding our AC ( user error) and I had to call Engineering…the gentleman they sent to our room was also so kind and helpful. Our room was a perfect size for us as we were traveling with a teenager who wanted their own space. Would definitely recommend the 1 bedroom suite for families that would like room to stretch out. We enjoyed our breakfast this morning…get the French toast. I can’t remember the name of the host or our server but they were both excellent as well. All in all an excellent stay and we will definitely be back.
Not worth the money - They seem to be more interested in Taking money while you're not looking!
2.0The only perk of this hotel was the Location, right at the beginning of Gaslamp, making walk through the area very accessible.
− ****** BEWARE OF YOUR INVOICE AT CHECKOUT ******** I had to wait for the charges to settle to complete this review: Beware of the charges when you receive your invoice, I made the mistake of not reading the whole folio (main reason was that the TV/Tech in the room didn't work so I had to come downstairs and ask for a print-out of the Folio (having 2 old parents didn't allow for a complete review downstairs either). The charges you will see will be disorienting, so many taxes/fees that are not disclosed when booking through an OTA such as Booking.com. I agreed to pay an Upgrade fee of $30 for a "View", ended up in a room with "Roof View"!!! ***** More importantly: There is no self park at the Hotel, and a "Parking Charge" at the valet, the charge is $70 per stay. I brought 1 car and had reserved 2 rooms (for 1 night), Once arriving back home and reviewing the documents more clearly I noticed I had been charged for 2 Parking fees (1 for each room, instead of 1 charge for 1 car)!!! $70 per room! I don't know how desperate Hilton is for money but this is literally pulling money from travelers! I worked in Hospitality for over a decade (and actually had a relationship with Booking.com's Home's team) I have never seen this type of money grab from anyone within Hospitality! Its not about the $70, I want to make sure ALL travelers reading reviews to hopefully see this review and take measures if they up booking a room at this location! They are by far much better options at downtown SD (specifically Gaslamp). Marriot/Hyatt provide with the luxury you used to experience with Hilton. Here's a better list: AC Hotel | Gaslamp Plaza Suites | Hard Rock Hotel | Hotel Indigo | Margaritaville Hotel | Moxy San Diego| Palihotel | Residence Inn by Marriott | San Diego Marriott ... 40th Anniversary made extra special
10.0We recently stayed at the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter. Upon check in, Sofia asked if we were there for any special occasion. Upon hearing that we were celebrating our 40th anniversary, she arranged to have champagne and chocolate covered strawberries sent to our room. But more impressive, she included a hand written heartfelt message of congratulations that we will keep and treasure. Sofia went over and above with customer care to make sure that our stay was special.
Perfect
10.0Kevin and Daniel where a really nice attendants, i really recomend this hotel specially for the crew members.
Connecting Room Conundrum
4.0I chose the Hilton Gaslamp because I was traveling with my family and specifically booked what Hilton advertises as connecting rooms. Unfortunately, the room configuration we received is not what most travelers would reasonably understand a connecting room to be. Rather than two rooms connected by an interior pass-through door, the rooms share a small vestibule with a separate hallway door. While Hilton markets this as a connecting room, it functions very differently. Guests cannot independently re-enter the vestibule from the hallway if that door closes—they must contact hotel staff for access. The room doors are also self-closing, so there is no practical way to leave them open for easy movement between rooms. To be clear, I understand that traditional pass-through connecting rooms may not always be available. My complaint is not that Hilton couldn’t provide that room type. My complaint is that this alternative configuration is marketed as a “connecting room” without clearly disclosing that it operates very differently. Had we known that before check-in, we would have booked another hotel. I’ve attached a photo because I think future guests—especially families—deserve to know exactly what they’re reserving. If you’re booking connecting rooms so parents and children can move freely between rooms, this setup does not provide that experience. I was also disappointed with the location. While the Gaslamp Quarter is great for restaurants and nightlife, the immediate area felt rougher than expected. We didn’t feel comfortable walking around with our young children, particularly after dark. That may not matter to adults visiting for the nightlife, but it’s important information for families considering this property. Overall, this hotel may be perfectly suitable for business travelers or couples. However, families should be aware that Hilton’s advertised “connecting rooms” may not be traditional interior connecting rooms. That distinction is significant and should be clearly disclosed before guests book, not after they’ve arrived and unpacked.
