Nice location, not worth the money.
4.0Property location is ideal near the park and city
− The place is very dark, there is only one elevator everything was pretty cramped, breakfast seemed unorganized, staff didn’t always answer the reception, seems all together pretty hacked together. Too expensive for the what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. 3 star at best.
An Offputting Hotel Despite Earnest Staff
6.0The Hotel is a boutique hotel with a few positives and several significant negatives. First the positives: it is located in short walking distance to many of the attractions of Lucerne, such as the ferry quai and the railway station. Its front desk staff are friendly young people. Our room at least (billed as a suite, but not actually) was spacious by Swiss hotel standards. Now some quite significant negatives. First, the decor is very dark, especially in the rooms, where lighting is most insufficient. The furniture in the room is cheap and does not invite sitting and enjoying the room. The shower was small with only a hand-held shower head. The room was billed as "Garden View" but the small, chest height window actually only looks out over the green roof of the adjacent public library. And perhaps most off-putting, the ceiling is papered with soft porn in the form of a large photographic illustration of a naked and tattooed oriental woman with glowing nipples, a satisfied and lounging man looking on, and a double-entendre caption (complete with grammatical error). If this is a "Jean Nouvel masterpiece" as is claimed, I would avoid the artist; who wants to look at such a picture above his or her bed at the going down of the sun and in the morning -- and every time one wakes at night? The breakfast is, for a hotel of this cost, very sparse. And to get to it, one has to compete for the one tiny elevator with the staff who are using it at all hours to transport their carts and cleaning materials. The Hotel is not one to which I would likely return and I am surprised that it is part of a Marriott collection. Sorry!
Not my cup of tea.
4.0We are huge fans of Marriott and booked this hotel because of the location to the train station and downtown. The staff were amazing and very accommodating but the rooms were not safe for older travelers. We were given an upgrade on arrival and checked into our room after 3pm. The room was large and had a window overlooking the park. My husband has a bad back and he could not sit in the "bubble" chairs in the room. There were 3 steps up to a large bathroom with very slippery floors (even when not wet). I don't know who talked designers into barn doors and barn doors at the top of 3 steps for the bath is a recipe for disaster. There was only a tub/shower combo and that also was a challenge for my husband. We requested a room change after being in the room about an hour. The hotel doesn't offer any rooms for handicapped accessible. We were offered and accepted a smaller room with just a shower. It was much safer. It still had the same "Bubble" chairs that were not comfortable but did look cool. The worst thing about the room was the "art" on the ceiling. Not only did I have nightmares waking up to see it but it also surprised us each time we woke up. I guess I have to admit we are finally old! Finally, the restaurant has mirrors to reflect the light. It was blinding when you walk in and felt like I needed my sunglasses on the whole time. Overall it was a disappointment. I will be sure to check more carefully next time in Lucerne for something a little calmer and safer.
Convenient for walking central Lucerne
8.0The Hotel Lucerne is convenient to central Lucerne and walking the old city. It is a small, boutique hotel - the front desk told us it is the second smallest Autograph Collection hotel in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. As a Bonvoy Ambassador Elite, we had two rooms and were placed next door to each other on the top floor with a private end of the hall, making for a quiet stay. The rooms were large for a European urban hotel, especially the bathrooms. Everything was very clean and had a very distinctive modern design. The staff was friendly and accommodating of family travel with kids. For the size of hotel, the breakfast buffet offered a good variety. The only drawback was parking - the hotel has only two dedicated spots, which were already taken, so we were left to find parking on Lucerne city streets. Luckily we found a spot just a few blocks away.
