− ⭐☆☆☆☆ This hotel may have been a five-star property decades ago, but it has failed to keep up with modern international standards. It still feels trapped in the past while the rest of the hospitality industry has moved forward. The rooms are extremely outdated. The carpets have an unpleasant smell, and the electrical system is old-fashioned. Every light has its own separate switch, with no master switch to control the room lighting conveniently. Small details like these make the hotel feel neglected rather than luxurious. The front desk staff were the worst part of my stay. They were unhelpful and provided poor customer service. Room service was also disappointing, slow, and below the standard you would expect from a five-star hotel. Breakfast was another major letdown. The selection was very limited, and much of the food did not seem fresh. It certainly does not reflect the quality expected from a luxury hotel. To make matters worse, the hotel required a deposit of RMB 1,000 per day for the minibar. I told them to remove the minibar instead, but rather than doing that, they locked the entire refrigerator, preventing me from even storing my own bottled water. They refused to unlock it, which was both unreasonable and frustrating. The only positive aspect of this hotel is its location. Shanghai is a beautiful city, but unfortunately, staying at this hotel significantly damaged my overall experience. This was one of the most disappointing hotel stays I have ever had, and I would strongly advise anyone considering booking here to look elsewhere. Don’t let the photos fool you—this is a very old hotel that no longer deserves its five-star rating.
