Quiet and convenient but wouldn’t want to hang out there
5.0Location. Convenient to get to other sites in Monterey. And it was relatively quiet
− What once looked like a nice, modest hotel was sad. It is poorly maintained. Garbage overflowed out of an outdoor garbage can. Rusty light fixtures as well peeling paint in the bathroom. We were hopeful about the pool area but the pool looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in awhile.

5.0I booked this hotel out of need because I had to cancel another hotel. I did not had any expectation so I was not disappointed nor excited bout staying here. Our room was not cleaned up the day we arrived. It was noticeable. The next day, the cleaning crew did a great job in getting the room into shape. The location is behind a shady gas station. I will leave it at that. The hotel met our need for two days. I guess, if you don't have expectations this hotel is ok.
Avoid Red Lion
2.0The room was not cleaned well, there was no shower curtain to take showers, the pool looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in a while, there was no smoke alarm in our room, and they had a fire alarm going off that the front desk did not know about somehow. The gentleman at the front desk was helpful but being told to “be quiet” with a hand gesture by the lady working next to him is absolutely disgusting. Don’t stay here - you’re paying for what you get.
