From bad to worse

The whole place is just “off.” I agree with several other reviewers who felt the property must have changed hands recently and the new owners have let it go. We paid for a partial ocean view - there was none. It was incredibly expensive for a tired dark room. Of particular note dining at the Salty Stag was simply a weird experience. When we arrived we were seated then a couple people came by to ask if we had been helped, when we said no they just walked off. Nobody seemed to know what was going on and 3 different people were apparently all trying to serve us. My husband tried to order a simple Martini and the flustered the server so much they came back twice to ask questions about how to make it. We asked to share a large salad and were given 2 coffee saucers as plates to share with. Getting the bill requires chasing down staff. Breakfast was a whole other fiasco. The cleaning crew was rude when we asked to give us a minute as we were leaving one day then the next day cleaned at 5, making it tough to relax and get ready for dinner. I asked about spa services, published on their website and the front desk wrote a phone number for a “massage” down on the map they gave me at check in. Not that this is your fault, but the language and loud racism of some of the guests in front of everyone by the pool including young children and teenagers and non-white staff made me sick. This was the day after the ICE shooting in Maine. Then our last morning I ordered a hot chocolate as had all other days and receive ice cold chocolate milk still with smudges of chocolate spice in the cup. Never again.

Stunning location, beautiful resort

We loved this place. It was pretty perfect. Spectacular location. Absolutely stunning spot minutes from town of bustling Boothbay Harbor yet so peaceful and calm. Room was great for our family of 5, lots of room, housekeeping always cleaning room exactly when we were out in the morning. There was so much to do here 2 pools, hot tubs, bikes, trails, smores not to mention the greater area. All of the staff we met was helpful and friendly. I would absolutely recommdend this wonderful resort. Biggest regret was not staying longer on our Maine trip.

Good Bones but needs love

Our experience at Spruce Point was mixed. The resort has some strong points and some areas that need improvement. We stayed for two nights with another couple and ate 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners at the resort. We also used both pools. Here is the rundown. The views are very nice. The outdoor dining was very pleasant. The serving team that served the two breakfasts and one of the dinners were fabulous. There was one dinner where the individual server “disappeared” and our food arrived cold and the traditional things like clearing the table, asking if you needed anything etc. never occurred. Overall, we liked the dining experience and ate all 4 meals on the patio outside. Ours friends stayed in the “inn”. There room was very dated and not in a quaint way. They had a deck with a view which was nice BUT the paint on the exterior walls was peeling and in desperate need of painting. The pools were good but the game room was literally a joke. There were retro games but again, the room was shabby and rundown. There was no appeal. The grounds were pleasant and the location was close to Boothday but far enough away to enjoy quiet moments. Overall, it was a mixed bag staying at Spruce Point.

Issue with Booking reservation and unprofessional reaction by the Hotel

Very nice location.

− First time at this place and it looked great on Booking. My wife and I had discussed that it could be a great place for an annual 4th of July trip. However, things did not go as planned. We had booked a stay at the property through booking in April, well in advance for the 4th of July weekend, but when we arrived at the property in the late evening of July 2nd after a long drive, they did not find our reservation, apparently due to the fact that the reservation was made before the hotel opened for the season. Obviously no equivalent room was available and the hotel only could offer a room in the attic (room 8) that according to the manager at the reception was one of the most popular ones but was actually one of the historic rooms that did not have anything in common with the one we had reserved (e.g. no balcony), was very old (‘historic’ as the manager put it) and clearly did not meet our expectation. It even had some pending maintenance work (e.g. door did not close properly). Clearly not appropriate for the approx. $700 / night we had paid including 10% Genius discount. The reaction of the manager on duty very poor as she immediately blamed Booking and her staff, then threatened to kick us off property (as she had incorrectly been briefed by her staff that we had refused to give our credit card which was not accurate, staff had forgotten to swipe it with all the confusion with our reservation). Instead of offering an apology for our inconvenience first, and then trying to find a solution, the manager was immediately defensive and very unfriendly. We were undertstandidly very disappointed and will not return to this hotel ever again as we will always associate it with the 2026 4th of July disaster! The reaction of the Booking Genius hotline was much more professional and they initiated a so-called disruption process and would have paid the cost difference at a different hotel.

Our 5th trip there - always love our time there and recommend to anyone looking for a fun and peaceful getaway in a beautiful place.

It was delicious. There was plenty of food. Maybe a little pricey.
