2.0They are fooling people. This is not a proper hotel. It is a mothballed hotel that is opened up at weekends. The photos added are the true reality of this so called Hotel. It is nothing like the promotional photos. On arrival what we discovered was not good. It takes a lot for me to write a review like this. When we arrived we surprised to be given a Suite and thought we were in luck and then soon realised it was one of the better rooms. What they don’t tell you is that there are no actual amenities on site. If you want amenities you have use the amenities provided in the so called sister hotel (The Carlton) next door. There is nothing in this hotel except an old bar/reception with no drinks. My partner asked for a jug of water to take her tablets before bed, which we had to get from the sister hotel (The Carlton) next door. I had to walk with a jug of water from one hotel to the other. We found that the receptionist from the Bournemouth East Cliff Hotel was also working that evening in the Carlton Hotel. When my partner tried to complain and requested to speak to the Manager she was not of any use and would not assist. The only good thing i can say about the whole experience was that the suite that we were given was it was big, the TV and wifi worked. That’s all. The suite as was the whole Hotel was dated. The sink plug didn’t work as the screw that raises it was missing and the bath plug did not fit also. The whole hotel is in need of a complete refit. The TV stand was so dirty my partner wrote “Dirt” in it. See the photo. In the promotional photos it says there is an outdoor swimming pool. The true facts are yes, there is a swimming pool, and it is totally disgusting! It is unused and unusable. The funny part was the receptionist realised we were not happy to see its condition and soon after it was covered over. You may ask why we continued to stay there. We asked for a move to the Carlton Hotel like some other people that we saw and the receptionist refused as we were only there for the weekend. Is it fair for the management to use outdated promotional photos that have no reflection on the current condition and status of the hotel to advertise it? On the entry boards as you drive in the boards say that there is a restaurant, Conference Suites and Swimming Pool. This is not true! To add insult to injury they charge £20+ to park in the Car Park. You don’t have to take my word for it, feel free to check it out for yourself. We learn from experience and pay it forward. I pay this experience forward to you. Note: The Carlton Hotel is a sister hotel and a Time Share. I would keep this in mind also. If the management can treat customers to the Bournemouth East Cliff Hotel this way i would believe it must be the same in the Carlton also.
Friendly staff, but hotel needs some TLC!
8.0Enjoyed our stay overall, but hotel is a little 'tired' and in need of a serious 'uplift'! That aside, breakfast was good value and the staff were friendly and welcoming! Special mention to Ben who gave us lots of help on Saturday night at the Carlton wedding function and again on Sunday morning with our breakfast arrangements!
A good well located hotel if you do not bring a car
8.0This hotel is situated on the seafront about 20 minutes walk from the town centre. The hotel was clean and welcoming. Our room was a good size, clean and well decorated with a good size bathroom and bathtub. Hot water was plentiful. We had a good view of the fire escape - but then it was the cheapest room in the hotel - I would recommend paying extra for a sea view! Breakfast was good with a plentiful selection even for a gluten free diet. Dinner at the sister hotel next door had less choice but the food was plentiful and served promptly. Now for the one downside - the ridiculous £20 parking charge..The management needs to realise that this puts people off coming to the hotel - we would have stayed here before but because of this parking charge have used other hotels in Bournemouth instead. This time we circumvented the charge by coming by train. The hotel is a £6 taxi ride from the station. There is an hourly bus service (number 33) that stops outside the hotel, but Lansdowne is a 10 minute walk away with buses to all parts of Bournemouth and Poole and also services to Swanage, Salisbury and the New Forest, The other way to circumvent the parking charge is to park in the street outside where parking is free from 8pm to 9am. fI you are going out for the dsy this is a much better option than paying the hotel charge.
Mediocre hotel
6.0The hotel is a bit dated. Needs upgrading. The rooms are spacious, but the family rooms do not face the sea. Breakfast choices are limited. Staff are friendly.
DON'T BOOK DIRECTLY WITH BEST WESTERN HOTELS (it's flawed)
2.0First of all the hotel for the money was acceptable a bit run down outsde mainly pool area closed off. but room and breakfast were fine. the proplem I had was with the booking Sytem if you book direct through Best Westen Hotels GB website IT'S FLAWED DON'T BOOK DIRECTLY WITH BEST WESTERN HOTELS. I was unfortunately directed to their website by a search engine to stay at one their hotels in Bournemouth. I was encouraged to join their membership with the promise of a possible free breakfast for the stay (no chance). However, I continued anyway and booked/paid for one room with breakfast for 5 nights which was confirmed on my payment/booking summary. I thought that was it, far from it. Luckly because I don't leave anything to chance being a new member I check my booking in my account which stated 1 Room only (no mention of the Breakfast) . I immediately rang the hotel number, no answer, rang the central booking LGH who confirmed the booking was for 1 room only . They looked into it for me checking with the hotel and other departments who were all adamant I'd booked 1 room only. This went on back and forth with phone calls and emails from me including the booking /payment as proof which they still did not accept, but after 4 hours, they as a good will gesture added a complimentary (ie; Free ) breakfast. BINGO. Following my stay, I raised a complaint stating their booking system is flawed and requested compensation for my time and trouble in helping them to sort it out. Which was denied, so I then suddenly released seeing they denied everything and only added the breakfast on a complementary basis I should be entitled for the breakfast part of my booking I paid for, which was also denied and closed the complaint. So, I got Resolver to intervene but after 7 weeks they haven't had the courtesy to respond. So in short, they deserved this review to warn others think of booking direct. If I read the rest of the reviews on this site I would Of thought twice about booking directly with them VERY POOR
