Holidays in St. Maarten
6.0I spent 7 nights in St. Maarten at the Hilton Gran Vacation Flamingo Resort with my wife. I selected this hotel considering I am a Diamond member of Hilton HHonors, so hoping to find some benefits as a high ranking member, but apart of 2 small bottles of water at the day of arrival there as absolutely no benefits and recognition of my status. So if you are gold or diamond..be aware about that. The location is quite good with a nice front beach available to all the guests, but be aware that if you don't take 2 chairs in the morning, quite all the seat will be occupied by other guests and....unfortunately...nobody in the hotel is taking care to stop this very bad behavior. The room was clean and with a nice front view of the beach, with a balcony. The drawback was the nearby vent discharge of the kitchen, so some fried chicken smell during the day. The service for cleaning the room was available only once per week: not nice considering you are on holidays on a beach side (sand, salts, etc..). Regarding the personnel: at the reception there was zero empathy: not mandatory but it would have been appreciated, plus any request of information looked like a recorded disc: from Hilton I was expecting more. There is no restaurant, or better the beach bar is acting a s a restaurant, but it cannot be considered as such. Anyhow a lo of choices outside the hotel (all quite expensive, so walk a little bit more to keep the budget under control). There is a parking and the access is guard controlled, so you feel safe and the same is for the beach access. Be careful about the final bill: I took a sandwich during my stay (17 $) and on the bill I found an additional charge of 94 $: somebody used my room number to charge the dinner! Unfortunately they don't have any system to check your name with the room at the bar and that can generated mistakes or even worst abuse: again I was expecting better from Hilton. All in all we spent a good time going renting a car a going to the beautiful beaches on the French Side. I don' know if going back to St. Maarten I would go back to Hilton Flamingo: they need to improve, especially regrading the loyalty Hilton members.
A great place to explore St. Martin
10.0We loved our stay at Hilton Flamingo Beach. We had a large apartment (#7322) that had a beautiful view from the balcony. We enjoyed watching planes landing and taking off at SXM - so much better than getting blasted by sand at Maho Beach! The restaurant was very good and the pool was great. Everyone was extremely helpful. There is a grocery store behind the hotel where you can stock up on essentials. Everything was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. Driving to the entrance can be a little tricky at first, but you soon get the hang of that.
Overall OK
6.0Great beach and spacious rooms. There was s septic truck that gave off a smell and ruined our balcony experience a few hours every day. The restaurant is not great and area also not really much to do or see.
Great Location and Hilton Quality
10.0Fantastic location on St. Marten! Walkable to SO many restaurants, grocery stores and nightlife. We've been to St. Maarten many times on cruises, but this was our first time staying for several days on the island. We had a studio king with a balcony: complete with a full-size fridge, dishwasher, oven and microwave. The room had ample amounts of storage, and a very large balcony with a table, chairs and lounger out there for use. The pool and the beaches are fantastic... There are some early risers who get out and put towels on chairs EARLY, so keep that in mind. We never had a hard time finding a chair on the beaches (we didn't go to the pool except to walk by.) The staff did a good job of watching for those who had left towels and didn't return for a long time. Walkable to SO many good restaurants, and the Pelican Deli across the street which has everything you could possibly need. Drinks, snacks, water, alcohol, ice, etc... Staff was great - we can't wait to return again!
Wonderful week
10.0This is a great place. Very helpful staff. Did not rent a car this time but the taxi service was reasonable for local travel.
Tired property ALL elevators broken no AC
2.0Ok here is my review. The AC did not work in our bedroom. ALL 3 elevators for all floors were unusable for more than three days. Two of the elevators were broken our entire stay. The front desk staff was inconsistent, some really nice and some very rude. I’ve never been to Hilton before where there are no Bellman available and you literally need to beg for someone to help you with your bags and the person we got was not very willing to bring our bags up the five flights of stairs but it was not our fault that all the elevators were broken. Because it is Hilton grand vacations property, they consistently hound you every time you’re outside, at pool, beach or in the hotel for a 90 minute sales pitch for their timeshare property. You can tell the place is very old and was renovated a few years ago, but much like putting a lipstick on a pig. The restaurant was terrible. Their waitstaff lacked skills and the food was awful. I would not recommend this property. Save your money and go someplace else..
