Great location, Amazing Stay at Yamaichi Bekkan

10.0

It was a last minute booking so majority of the accommodations within the Miyajima island were already fully booked. It was a bit pricey (especially for a solo traveler), but they were the cheapest among the ones I've seen. The lovely elderly lady who manned the check in counter (I'm assuming she's also the owner) was very helpful. She gave me a map of the island and what to check while I was waiting for check-in (they were a bit strict with check-in schedule, and also the dinner schedule). When I came back after going up Mount Misen, I checked in, freshened up and went for dinner. They served an amazing 5-course dinner (soup, sushi, beef and one more, and dessert). The lady and I talked for a bit, she shared some stories about the upcoming Anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing, and she was even apologetic that their accommodation was a bit pricey since they didn't expect a solo traveler to be booking with them. I said no need to apologize, I was glad I was able to get a room with them. And that dinner was really good. The hotel itself is just across the port, once you exit the port, you will see it beside the Lawson convenience store. It's a bit of a walk from the Itsukushima shrine and the Misen ropeway, but at night, the area is so quiet so it was nice to walk around without any tourists in sight. The room is nice. I think they offer ryokan style rooms and also regular rooms like mine (see photo). They have a restaurant at the ground floor although I dunno if it's open for public or just for hotel patrons. You have the option to include breakfast, but I opted out since I was planning to explore the island before I check out. Honestly, if I get the chance to come back to Miyajima, I will book with them again.

very relaxed stay

this place is so near the ferry port for access its great. do not be fooled by the picture of this place , it's great. we stayed here for three nights and loved it. its quiet clean and very traditional with fantastic food. I would heartly recommend the Japanese breakfast this was a feast in its self. the staff are what makes this place tick helpful , generous and with a personality as well. if you usually book corporate then i would say still stay here as it is a treat and you have a very strong feeling of relaxation when you leave. its like visiting your favourite family members.

Blown away! Run by the nicest people I’ve ever met. Perfect location - nothing more than a 10-15 min walk. Beautiful traditional Japanese room. Tatami floors. Futon beds. Tea and coffee. Amazing shower! Yukatas. Excellent vegan food. I really can’t praise it enough.

Dear Shinko-san. Thank you for a wonderful stay at Yamaichi Bekkan (10/10/24( It was as memorable as our first stay in 2006 (25/08/06). Our dinner was scrumptious, our bed comfortable and you were as generous and kind as before. Truly a Miyajima legend. Richard (Thom-san).

100% Perfect!

We stayed at the Yamaichi Bekkan for 2 incredible nights and were treated like family from the start. Shinko, our hostess was so welcoming, warm, and genuine. Our chef, Teppei, explained the beautifully prepared, incredibly delicious, many-course meals and the local ingredients. Both Shinko and Teppei were so fun and engaging to talk with and learn from. Our room was clean, beautiful, and bright. The location was wonderful, just across the street from the ferry and only a 10-minute walk past a bunch of shops to the Otorii Gate. The best part of the experience was getting to know Shinko, Teppei, and the server, Yoko. Their warm smiles and conversation every time we came in the door made us feel right at home. The meals were also absolutely exceptional, and we were so happy to have both breakfasts and dinners there. Teppei described each course with passion and enthusiasm, not only listing ingredients and cooking methods, but with personal stories of favorite Japanese customs. The dinners were elegantly-presented, delicious, and changed from one night to the next. For example, one dinner included seafood chowder, sashimi, dumpling soup, rolled egg omelets, beef, tempura vegetables and seafood, miso, and cheesecake. They also checked with us about dietary preferences and would have adjusted appropriately. We can't recommend this hotel any higher. We connected with the people there and the location so comfortably and so easily. We did not want to leave.

A short Honeymoon treat at the most welcoming Hotel

10.0

We stayed at the Yemaich Bekkan in May 2024 as part of our Honeymoon. We absolutely loved this hotel and its amazing management and staff. We spent 3 weeks travelling around Japan and this was one of our favourite hotels due to the wonderful hospitality and the amazing food. We were made to feel very special, we were so sorry to only be stopping for 2 days. I can throughly recommend staying at this hotel. If we ever go back to Japan, the Yemaichi Bekkan will definitely be on our list to visit again.
