Rooms not ready
2.0On motorcycles drove down Skyline Drive on Monday to Peaks of Otters arriving at 5pm. Found out none of the rooms where ready, cleaning lady had quit and maintenance guy was cleaning room. Waited 3 hours and desk attendant could not be found. Many people were at desk wondering what was going on. We left to drive to Lynchburg to get a room hot there at 9pm. Could not reach any hotel staff for next 3 days. Very disappointed. Will not stay there again.
Overpriced and disappointed
4.0Our stay was less than satisfactory. The room smelled old and musty. There were multiple flies in the room when we checked in . There was one hand towel on the bed and it was damp. There were only tea and decaf coffee keurig cups. We did go to the front desk and were given 2 clean, dry hand towels as well as some caffeinated keurig cups. The restaurant was understaffed. The first day we waited 10 minute before a host even came to the host stand. Then had an hour wait to be seated. The waitress at lunch was wonderful though. Although the skillet cookie and berry crisp were both out of stock. We were told they’d be back for dinner, but they were both out AGAIN. For dinner we ordered out to take back to our room as the wait was 60-90 minutes. The food was cold and although we ordered ice cream with our chocolate torte, neither of us received the ice cream. Breakfast was ok - Holly kept forgetting things (honey for tea, more hot water and coffee). This is all for a one night stay. The property was beautiful but the price was overpriced.
Don't Stay Here
2.0We stayed one night while traveling through and arrived at 7pm ready to relax. Unfortunately that did not happen. It took us 20 minutes for the bartender to even look at us. He had a full bar and everyone looked annoyed. He was running around getting ice and glasses - no one to help him. The whole bar room was a mess. We eventually got our drinks and waiting a very long time for our dinner table. The dining room was not full so clearly they were trying not to burden the very small waitstaff. Sat us at a very wet table so I asked for it to be dried and they gave me a rag to do it myself. Fine. Food was ok, no complaints there. We were excited to get to the room and finally relax but we found the room to be more like a camp. One window was just a screen and we couldn't close it. There was one chair on the balcony. Again fine. The next morning we were excited for a good breakfast and a view of the lake. We were told there was only a buffet which was disappointing. The server took our coffee and water order and we didn't see her again for probably 20 minutes. There were only 3 tables eating. The buffet was terrible. The eggs were so overdone they didn't even move. Had a crust over them. The potatoes were cold. The bacon was all I could eat. Overall, if we had been staying at a cheap hotel all of this would be fine and expected. But for what we paid this was the worst experience. We visit the BRM's often (mostly in NC) and we will never ever come back to this hotel. The icing on the cake is we left something in the room and called the next day to let them know. They said they'd call us back. Called again. And again. No help. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
Disappointing experience
4.0I used to eat here with my parents 60 years ago. I remembered the food as being very good. Today there were only about 3 waiters, Only part of the menu was available. No entrees only soups and sandwiches. I paid $14 for a hamburger. I asked for Swiss cheese on it but there was no cheese, I also had potato salad. I paid $4 for a glass of strawberry lemonade. The chocolate torte was excellent. The total bill was $30 before top for a mediocre lunch. I was very disappointed.
Beautiful scenery at a slow pace ....
10.0This was probably the 10th time we've stayed at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. This, as every other time, was perfect. Beautiful scenery at a slow pace overlooking the lake and mountains.
Bad experience
4.0After looking forward to our stay at the Peaks of Otter Lodge, couldn't have been more disappointed. The lady at the front desk was very good, but we had to switch from the first room we were given due to a problem with the bed, we were given another room. The second room was horrible. The shade was broken and came up only on one side. There were at least a dozen flies in the window which we spent a few minutes killing. The window sill was filthy. The window was so dirty you couldn't even see the lake through it. Looking up we saw lots of flies in the cathedral ceiling and black mold that was crawling down the walls and on all the beams. The smell was so bad my nose was burning. There was only one chair on the balcony overlooking the lake, and it was gross. We left immediately. I hope they didn't put somebody else in that room before the mold was cleaned up. The good thing is the property is absolutely beautiful. I have gone there many many times in the last 50 years, this is the worst I've ever seen the rooms.
