Atlantis- amazing resort with something for every age

8.0

Amazing resort, so much to do and see and something for all ages, it was super simple to get between properties with the shuttles, the pools were amazing and the beaches were clean and easy to get to. The most memorable part is all of the sea life in the aquariums, we got up early to watch the shark and stingray feedings which was amazing. The only big qualm I have is the availability of affordable food options every meal was 100$ +. Another item of note is there is no gift shop/ sundries at Cove, you had to walk to the next property Reef to get bottled water or snacks. The rooms had great sound dampening and even though there was construction going on it was not disruptive. Overall, we would return to Atlantis, but would stay at the royal as it is more centrally located and had better amenities. Also, take the time to. Check out the straw market, the locals are lovely and you get unique hand made souvenirs. The best service and dining experience I have to give a shoutout to Carmine’s and Seafire for the most amazing Meals and staff. The value was definitely worth a repeat visit.

RIP Off - Avoid

2.0

We stayed at The Cove, supposedly one of the most luxurious and exclusive parts of Atlantis. Unfortunately, the entire experience felt like a very polished and extremely expensive scam. Atlantis is exceptionally good at marketing. It presents The Cove as top-end luxury and the wider resort as a world-class destination. The reality is an ageing, tired and aggressively monetised resort that charges extraordinary prices while delivering inconsistent service, visibly worn facilities and poor overall value. The Cove accommodation may be positioned at the top of the Atlantis range, but guests spend much of their holiday using the same shared restaurants, attractions, pathways and facilities as the rest of the resort. Too much of that shared environment looks old, poorly maintained or simply exhausted. The scale remains impressive, but scale is not luxury. Food and drink prices are absurd. High headline prices are then inflated further by tax, compulsory service charges and continued expectations around additional tipping. Service charges appear to be treated as an entitlement rather than something connected to the quality of service actually provided. The result is a constant sense that Atlantis is looking for the next opportunity to extract money from a captive guest. Service was inconsistent and frequently nowhere near the standard justified by the price. At this level, guests should not have to accept indifferent service while simultaneously being charged automatic gratuities and encouraged to tip again. The clearest example was Bahamian Nights at Poseidon’s Table. Atlantis advertised a premium themed buffet featuring Bahamian food, “tropical cocktails” and “live music.” We attended as a party of eight across two families. There was no live music during our visit. No band, singer, musician or live performer of any description. The restaurant played recorded background music through its speakers. I filmed the experience extensively, so this is not a misunderstanding or a difference of opinion: the advertised live entertainment was simply not there. The reference to “tropical cocktails” also turned out to mean one included cocktail per person. That restriction only became clear after we had sat down and specifically asked what was included. We had effectively paid a premium for an ordinary buffet, one drink and a CD playing in the background. That experience summed up Atlantis perfectly: impressive promotional language, premium pricing, important limitations revealed only after purchase and an underwhelming product once the customer has committed. For comparison, we left Atlantis for one night and stayed at The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort. It was materially more expensive, but it represented far better value. The environment, maintenance, service and hospitality were consistent with the price. It felt like a genuinely premium hotel. That comparison confirmed that our objection is not simply that luxury resorts in the Bahamas are expensive. We are willing to pay premium prices where the quality justifies them. The Ocean Club did. Atlantis did not. At The Ocean Club, we paid more but felt properly looked after. At Atlantis, we repeatedly felt processed, upsold and overcharged. There are aspects children may enjoy, particularly the water attractions and marine habitats. However, the existence of attractions does not excuse poor value, ageing infrastructure, inflated prices or advertising experiences that are not delivered as described. For us, Atlantis was not luxury. It was a giant, tired commercial machine using powerful marketing, captive-resort economics and compulsory charges to extract as much as possible from each guest. The Cove charges luxury prices. The resort experience does not justify them. On the evidence of our stay, the whole place felt like a scam.

Had a great time would definitely recommend it for a couple. There's a section of the beach a bit more private. That's where I went with my wife.

Less than expected

4.0

After more than 15 years of visiting Atlantis, usually twice a year with my family, I never thought I would be writing a review like this. I have also brought my company, GetMeHealthcare, to Atlantis multiple times over the years, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars between corporate events and personal trips. Unfortunately, this was easily our most disappointing experience. We paid a premium to stay at The Cove and specifically expected the Lapis-level experience we booked. Instead, our room had no balcony and honestly felt like an average hotel room—not what I would consider a luxury experience for the price we paid. The Lapis experience had also been moved downstairs, and the entire experience was far below what we had come to expect. The biggest disappointment was that the main Cove pool was closed, and we were not properly notified before our trip. This is a major part of why my wife and I stay at The Cove. We actually hired and paid for a nanny specifically so we could spend time together enjoying the Cove pool and amenities while our children were being cared for. We spent additional money planning our vacation around this, only to arrive and discover that the experience we paid for was not available. The kids' pool experience wasn't much better. We paid for a cabana, yet when we needed assistance, almost no one seemed able to help. One person was extremely nice and genuinely tried to assist us, which we appreciated, but at one point we were literally told to walk around and find a woman we didn't know. That is incredibly frustrating when you're paying for a cabana at a resort that positions itself at this level. The food menu at the kids' pool was also very disappointing and poorly suited for a family/kids' pool area. We heard several other guests around the pool discussing the same issue, so we certainly weren't alone. What bothered me most was the lack of communication and concern. If we had been told beforehand that the Cove pool would be closed and that the Lapis experience would be significantly different, we could have made an informed decision about whether staying at The Cove was worth the premium. Instead, we arrived after spending considerable money on the room, nanny, travel, cabana, food, and everything else that comes with a family vacation, only to find that major parts of the experience we specifically came for were unavailable. When I asked whether anything could be done, including an upgrade or some assistance to improve our stay, I was basically told nothing could be done. After 15+ years of loyalty, countless family vacations, and bringing substantial corporate business to Atlantis, I expected much better. This wasn't about simply wanting an upgrade—it was about receiving the experience we paid for and having someone show some concern when that experience wasn't delivered. Atlantis and The Cove have given my family many great memories over the years, which makes writing this even more disappointing. Unfortunately, after this experience and the way our concerns were handled, I do not plan on returning. For anyone considering paying the premium to stay at The Cove, I strongly recommend confirming in advance exactly which pools, restaurants, Lapis amenities, and other facilities will actually be available during your stay.
