Breakfast staff member somewhat rude when asking questions. Other than that it was good

Lady clerk was great
6.0Good location
− Old 2 guys at desk were rude as hell
Noisy and Pricey
4.0PROS: Location, room sizes, nice lobby, large dining room, pleasant front desk staff, and decent breakfast. CONS: Very noisy traffic for rooms facing the highway, pool is closed, furniture in dining room is worn, elevator door is very loud and squeaky, grounds have dead bushes, bushes needing trimmed, and weeds in landscaping. VALUE: Poor. Considering the cons, $370 for 2 nights in king bed room and $450 for 2 nights in king bed suite with sofa sleeper are pricey.
It was in a convenient location.
4.0It was convenient.
− The pool is closed, the hot tub is filled in with concrete. We’ve stayed here at this location many times and it was always clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. The grounds are unkempt and full of weeds, but the kicker was two dirty wash clothes hanging on the shower rod. 🤮
Very high price for road noise and outdated hotel.
4.0I went back and forth between 2 and 3 stars. I ended up with a 2 because I couldn't sleep and that made me think of the price all night long. The room was fairly clean and the hotel is conveniently located right off the interstate — easy to find when you're traveling. That said, I have three significant complaints: road noise, price, and the overall condition of the property. Road Noise: If you're placed in a room facing the highway, expect to hear traffic all night. I was unable to sleep and would strongly recommend requesting a room on the opposite side of the building. Price: My rate was $222 which I already found hard to justify for this property, but with an added $50 pet fee it came to $272 for the night. I travel with a licensed emotional support animal and always carry her official documentation. I understand that ESA policies have been abused and I don't always expect the fee to be waived, but $50 on top of an already steep rate felt excessive for what was offered. Honestly, given the condition of the hotel, $120 would be a more appropriate price point. Condition: The hotel is dated. The lobby is acceptable but the guest areas show their age — the room was spacious but the furniture was worn and the overall feel was tired. This would be easier to overlook for a quick overnight stay if the price reflected it, but at $272 the value simply isn't there. The high ratings here are puzzling to me unless this property was significantly more affordable in the past. At a lower price point many of these issues would be forgivable. At this price they are not. If you do decide to stay here, make sure to request a room facing away from the interstate. Better yet, I would suggest looking elsewhere altogether. I tend to be loyal to the Marriott brand, but if you're stopping in Effingham, IL this would be one case where I'd recommend exploring other options.
