Tasty food in a beautiful location at Lake Zell

We had lunch at the restaurant at the Grand Hotel in Zell am See recently. I ordered the tagliatelle, while my partner chose the beef dish. The pasta was silky smooth and packed with flavour. The beef was equally delicious and cooked perfectly. Both dishes were beautifully presented, which was a refreshing change. At many of the other Austrian restaurants we dined at, the emphasis seemed to be on hearty, homely cooking without any attention to presentation. So, it was nice to enjoy food that was not only delicious but also plated in a visually appealing manner. Our waiter, Marin, was especially friendly and chatty. The only downside was that the overall service felt a little slow. We noticed that some nearby tables, particularly guests who had only stopped in for a snack, struggled to get the staff's attention when they were ready to pay their bill. Overall, the quality of the food, the beautiful lakeside setting, and Marin's excellent hospitality made for a very enjoyable lunch.

No longer Austria, felt very alien and unsafe, our requests we not met, we will avoid.

This has once been a great hotel and it’s lakeside location is it’s big attraction, however, it has seen better times. The staff are doing their best and try very hard.

− Access to the hotel by car is difficult and this needs to be made clear, it involves ignoring no entry signs, crossing a rail line whilst avoiding tourists and negotiating automatic raising bollards. I had messaged this hotel not once, but twice, requesting secure parking for a Ferrari but upon arrival we discovered that the underground parking was inaccessible due to ground clearance, a fact they must be aware of but failed to divulge. Our car was therefore to be parked on hotel frontage with public access and became a tourist attraction. As expected it was damaged, scratched and the front grill tampered with in an attempt to forcibly remove the horse motif. For the first time at any hotel I was required at check in to confirm that we would not smoke in the room or attach hoses in the bathroom, presumably for washing our bottoms. The room supplied was basic with little in the way of luxury. The terrace, like most of the hotel is fully open to the public and I was advised by staff to take care of my handbag. The restaurant is grand but the dress code is not observed, many people wandering in the hotel appear not to be guests and there are no cameras in bars and restaurants. One Asian man put his hand down his open fly in front of me in the bar, but there was no camera to identify this incident. I cannot fault the staff who are struggling with the situation, I witnessed staff being verbally abused by a guest, this is not the Austria we used to know, it is now another place altogether, this place has sold its soul. We left as soon as possible and were not allowed any refund for a missed night, despite the obvious insurmountable problems, due to booking via this portal.
