Perfect location but needs some attention.
7.0Location is perfect with beautiful riverside gardens. Quick walk to the cathedral. Staff were helpful. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We had dinner in the restaurant -plenty of choice and our meals were good.
− Bathroom was dated. Room was comfortable but in need of an update too. Staff were helpful especially in the restaurant although again it needs some updating.

8.0Lovely location made better by the lovely weather. Quiet and relaxing sat by the river watching the swans. Staff couldn't do more, friendly, helpful and professional all round. Special mention to Ellie on reception. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice, never ate in the restaurant so can't comment.
− Room needs a bit of paint and tlc. Outside patio was ideal but very dirty, needs a general clean up ..decor needed upgrading. Bed was very clean and exceptionally comfortable and room included iron and ironing board, hairdryer etc which is always needed.
Never, ever, again.
3.0− We arrived at 1pm to a supposedly 4* hotel. The website not only advertised the four stars but said that lunch was to be served. There was no lunch despite the website stating there was. A party had monopolised the entire hotel and, as newly arrived residents, we were not even offered a sandwich. Welcome! It was a very hot day indeed and, having driven for hours, we did not want to walk into a city to find something to eat. We then asked for a fan for our room. We were told that they had all been taken. We later met an American lady who told us that she had asked, and had been given not one but three fans. After a “conversation” with reception they found one for us. I stayed in this hotel frequently a few years ago, and we also stayed there two months before this visit. But never, ever, again. This kind of contempt for repeat customers, when supposedly a 4* establishment, is utterly unacceptable. If they cannot service their residents they should not accept party bookings. By advertising lunch and not providing it they proved themselves contemptuous of their customers. In terms of cleanliness, the gents reception was desperately in need of a complete refit. The urinals were growing black mould. The hand-basins were cracked and stained dark grey. It was filthy.
Great location
8.0The room was hot and poorly lit & ventilated , accepting it is a historic part of the building. Car parking was added as an extra despite not being mentioned in the booking (whereas the breakfast was stated). We waited an hour for our dinner (main course). The staff were very friendly, the location was brilliant and the building was great. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.
