Lovely old Inn with a perfect location.
7.0The location was ideal. We could walk to town and restaurants.
− Breakfast was ok. The small room with tables for breakfast also had a very large ice machine that was so loud it was difficult to sit there. We booked late and got the one room available which was small. This wasn't bad, but they recessed the refrigerator into the closet leaving no more than 12" of space. The very small chess of drawers had very shallow drawers which didn't help. There was room for a larger piece of furniture and for the refrigerator outside of the closet. We were there for a week.
The Essex Street Inn definitely enhanced our Newburyport experience.
10.0We found the room to be spacious, clean and well appointed. The cost was competitive considering room size and time of year. The location was perfect, allowing easy walking access to the central waterfront area.

4.0Breakfast was great! The staff was very nice. The location was good.
− The jacuzzi tub didn’t really work. Only one jet worked. We didn’t get to stay in the main hotel, they put us across the parking lot.
Overall it was a great experience. very clean rooms, great shopping close by. Cute little town
7.0The location was the best part! Right in the middle of downtown. Extremely clean! Wish I could take the bed home it’s so comfortable
− Having a knock at our door after we had already check in that the town was shutting the water off by 8am the next day to fix the furnace and heating, so we woke up up extra early to take showers before we couldn’t use the water but they ended up not shutting it off. Said they just found out it wasn’t being done (at 10:30am) and that it was out of her hands, could care less that we woke up early to use the water. Wasn’t apologetic, just blamed it on the town. Very rude and standoffish like oh well not my problem.
Perfect inn in a perfect location to explore the town and beyond
9.0A striking building externally and very comfortable apartment, all the basics are spot on and it is excellent value for money. On-site car parking was great. Breakfast was quaint, a mini buffet on a help yourself basis worked well, with seating and tables close by. Staff very pleasant and helpful when required. Newburyport itself is a lovely town and the location is very central for the restaurants, bars and main attractions of the town and also for day trips to places close by such as Portsmouth, Rockport, Gloucester, Salem & Plum Island
