The 3 meighos
10.0Take absolutely no notice of the negative reviews on this lovely little hotel. The rooms did not smell at all, and the toilet paper was fine as 2 previous reviews said. The staff here are all lovely, the girl at front of house, think her name was Tasha, lovely girl who greeted us with a lovely smile and a welcoming manner. Also Donna at breakfast who my wife had a lovely conversation with, and looked after us fantastically well. I really dont know what people want from a hotel like this, maybe 6 star service, sorry you get what you pay for. Would i come back, too right I would. Thanks to all your lovely staff.
Far too many inconveniences
2.0Stayed 1 night as a stopover on a long car journey with two rooms for the family. For various reasons this was a disappointing stay. There was a power for at least 2 in the evening, delaying our ability to go to bed that evening as we had an early drive the next morning. The rooms were not accessible as as there was no emergency lighting in the rooms and lifts were out. My mum had limited mobility and needed the lift to get to our room on the 2nd floor so needed to wait for the lift again when power came back on. The staff appeared unable to reassure me that safety protocols were in place. When asked if the fire protection was in place if we stayed, they had no idea. There was no offer to automatically move people to other Accor hotels there is one down the road, if they required. Instead they wanted people to sit it out and if they wanted to move and pay themselves and take on that responsibility. Thankfully it only went on for two hours in the end, otherwise a disaster waiting to happen here. The next morning the fire alarm went off at 7am getting us up and then it turned off after we got up. So more disturbence to an already bad stay. This overall stay was really poor. I do appreciate power cut isn’t expected but the staff didn’t give me any assurance and it felt like reasonable protocols aren’t in place. There was no manager or decision maker present at all the whole period. The next day there was no staff available at all apart from one breakfast employee for a few hours. It felt like staff were just avoiding customers and any complaints. It wasn’t worth what we paid for all the inconveniences. I wouldn’t return at all.
The room stunk
2.0Read the reviews about stench before you book ! See this - Reviews for the Ibis Styles Haydock (near St Helens) indicate consistent, recurring issues with unpleasant odors in the bathrooms, often described as a strong smell coming from the toilet pan or blocked drains. Some guests reported needing to use air fresheners or, in some cases, reporting the sewage smell to staff. Drainage Issues: Several guests experienced blocked, slow-draining, or smelly drains, particularly in the shower/wet-room area. Bathroom Smells: Complaints highlight a "sewage" or "pee" smell, which may be related to the toilet or drainage system
Perfect
10.0Arrived on a grey January Friday to be greeted by a lovely smiley friendly lady on reception. Warm, informative and helpful. Ideal rooms, spotlessly clean and really quiet. Two of our party had breakfast twice and said it was excellent. Tasha, another receptionist has a smile wider then the double doors and is every bit as lovely as our greeter. Wonderful hotel for the price.
Cancelled booking for family visit over Christmas.
4.0We booked up to stay over Christmas and when the booking was placed, we asked that we could stay on the 1st floor like we always do. This booking was made in the middle of November and the requests only picked up 6 days before we are due to stay. Sorry, this floor is not available and placed us on the 2nd floor. We do not do lifts and have other reasons. After a discussion by Email which didn't help. We cancelled the booking and now staying at home. If we had more time to find a suitable replacement hotel, we would still be going. We always have used the Ibis Haydock without issue up to now.
Value for Money
8.0Stop off on a trip further north. Location was perfect for what we had planned. Rooms basic, however for the price paid, felt value for money. Breakfast - adequate selection to meet our requirements. Staff friendly and promptly cleared table's. The hotel was very quiet at the time we stayed. Visited the local restaurant, that is ideally located as a limited selection of food on the menu as the hotel.
