A friendly hotel

10.0

We stayed in this hotel as part of a Newmarket tour. i thought the hotel was charming, the staff really friendly especially in the restaurant and bar area. Our room was spacious, clean and with a generous balcony. I dont recognise the other reviews about the food, there was plenty of choice and the dinners hot. The only disappointmnent for me was the lack of channels on the tv and lack of instructions in the room period.

Total lack of services

2.0

28 degrees celcius in my room. I couldn't get the air con to turn on. Rang reception for help and they informed me the turn off all aircons to the rooms during low season and if i didn't like it... to open a window. Do yourselves a favour, and stay anywhere else!

Disappointing hotel

4.0

This hotel is not a four star hotel . The food was really awful either inedible, lukewarm warm or both. The service in the restaurant varies between okay and poor. One night we waited 45 minutes for our 1st course only for the waiter to bring the 2nd course while we were still eating! Frederico is superb in the restaurant and tries to run the bar in the lounge at the same time hence we waited for a drink every night as he can’t split himself into two! The hotel is quite dated and in need of a refurb. On a positive it is very clean and in a good location. We loved the funicular up to Montecanti Alto. Stunning. Would we stay here again? Definitely not

Tour of Tuscany and Manzoni Hotel

4.0

We have just returned from a Newmarket tour of Tuscany and stayed in the Manzoni Hotel in Montecatini. We have given it 2 stars mainly for food and lack helpfulness of staff. Only one of the Dining room waiters, Frederico, (also tended the bar) was exceptional and took notice of our complaints about the evening meal. Food was luke warm at best and often so well done that you couldn't eat it, especially the meat. A pork shank we had, for instance, was so hard I couldn't cut the meat of the bone. Mashed potatoes were sloppy and lumpy and the pasta courses were completely tasteless. In their defence, after complaining and leaving food, Frederico seemed to have stirred the chef into cooking better food, but that was the 4th day of 7!!! Breakfast was abysmal, the bacon and scrambled eggs were burnt every morning and you could eat the bacon or was so hard, eggs like rubber. Boiled eggs were OK but that was the hot choice. Bowls of yoghurt, toasting bread and jugs of milk were never replenished and on an early start day we had to go into the kitchen to get someone to get some. The waiters were grumpy and acted as if we were a bother to them! We had a large room, extremely old fashioned but clean except being plagued by ants running over the drawers and up the hanging space by the window! We complained to the hotel and Newmarket rep and thought it was sorted but NO!! The shower was in a cubicle and the doors kept falling off the rails. The second time it happened, the young girl behind the desk actually said that she had been told to fix them and she didn't have a clue. One night we had a visitor in the shower, a Gecko, it was just enjoying the water as I showered and clung to the glass . That was quite endearing really. On early morning starts it was really dark in the reception area, no lights on and nobody behind the desk. On the plus side it had a nice pool which had a sliding cover and whirl pool which was nice on the one down day we had. Would we go back - No! I will also do a separate review of Newmarket Holidays as that is a different story!!!

Comfortable stay, good location but wouldn’t rush back. Needs modernising.

6.0

Recently stayed at this hotel in September. When we arrived after a long day travelling to our rooms, the floor was dirty and full of dark black hairs throughout the room and into the bathroom. There was a dressing gown in the room that is supposed to be provided but was filthy and torn, it belonged in a bin. When we explained to the staff that the floor was dirty they were quite rude and tried to make out it was caused by wool. Once we shown them the pictures they said they would get a cleaner to our rooms which they did after nearly an hour of waiting. Throughout the rest of the stay I’ll admit the rooms were cleaned every day and very comfy beds. Reasonably quiet and comfy sleep. Overall throughout the hotel it needs a lot of modernisation, which is a common theme. The pictures of this hotel online does not match what you get, photos online definitely cat fish this hotel. Reception staff were friendly, but one in particular was quite rude. The reception staff could also do with dressing in smarter uniform. Not too sure how this hotel manages to get a 4 star. Other than that, the hotel is in a good location from the centre. It’s about a 10-15 min walk from montecatini Centro and a 20-25 min walk to the funicular to go up to montecatini alto. I personally wouldn’t stay here again, but it was mostly an enjoyable stay.
