Poor staff reception at otherwise average Paris three star hotel.
4.0What is best about this hotel is the location. The actual hotel and room were about what would be expected of a small Paris hotel. Leaving a 50cl bottle of Vacqueras in the room with two nice wine glasses and a welcome note was a nice touch, which however did not match the rest of our experience.
− The staff reception is terrible. The first person barely looked up at us when we arrived and I talked to him in French--he just mumbled almost incomprehensibly. It turned out that the card he gave us for our room did not work the first time or the second time, so he had to go up to the fourth floor with us to verify this. The elevator seemed to take a long a time to respond (I had to hold down the button for the light to stay on). When I began my shower in the morning, the water suddenly turned off on me (luckily before I had applied any soap). When I reported this, the water came back on brown... which it continued to be the whole rest of our stay, despite my running the water for a long time. The second staff person was not any friendlier. Having just had the exact opposite experience with the reception at a hotel in Lyon, it was shocking to see how these staff people have no sense how to make guests feel welcome, feel like guests, show a little affect, interest. We stayed at the Castex Hotel because our friends live nearby on the same street. Unless things change, I'm not sure we will ever stay there again.
