The pool is excellent. The views are beautiful and it’s only a 5 minute walk down to the supermarket (which is important due to the lack of food available at the hotel) The ambience is pleasant and we felt relaxed. There was hardly any other people around so we had the pool mostly to ourselves! I think the property is mostly used for people stopping off for a night or two as they pass through.

− As stated by others, this is not a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. The sun beds were old and faded, two ripped when we were using them. Despite the website saying there was a snack bar- there wasn’t! This meant that we had to buy provisions in From the supermarket for during the day. The evening menu was limited and we didn’t use the restaurant and opted to walk into San Jose-for food. The menu doesn’t match the hotels own website at all. In the last day I couldn’t even get a cup of tea at the bar as they said they had none! I saw no horses at the adjoining stables, which was part of the expected ‘experience’ . So many things were in disrepair and not looked after or being maintained. The showers by the pool were particularly poorly maintained with tiles missing and quite grubby. Having said all of that, we would go back as it was peaceful and away from any hustle and bustle.

The distances within the Cabo de Gata Natural Park are relatively short, so San José was a great base for us, with no drive taking more than about 45 minutes. The hotel is just outside town, which makes it wonderfully quiet, so we slept extremely well. The beach is a 15-minute walk away and restaurants and a supermarket are about 10 minutes away. There is a pavement along the road, so walking feels safe. We could park our car in the shade right next to our room. The room was spacious, with a gigantic bed and a private open terrace, and it was spotlessly clean every single day. The main entrance and communal areas are beautiful, with historic artefacts and details that really reinforce the character of the old cortijo. We really enjoyed the swimming pool, the water temperature was lovely. We were also glad we booked breakfast. We had read reviews saying it wasn't worth much, and while it is indeed very basic and the quality isn't the best, there is a good variety of simple options (bread, toppings, yoghurt, fruit, pastries) so you can quickly have a filling breakfast before heading out for the day.

− We ended up buying our own shampoo on the second day. The dry, empty and brown landscape immediately surrounding the hotel makes the atmosphere feel a little desolate. The breakfast could be of better quality. Apart from that, we had no real issues with the room or our stay.
