Lovely family run hotel
10.0Fabulous family run hotel, very clean ,food is very good with lots of options. The spa is lovely and also very clean. Right in the center of the town with shops on the doorstep. Very quiet at night. We stayed for a week skiing, the city express gondola is only 10 minutes away. The bus station is just below the gondala so you have the option of getting the bus to the glacier from there. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and the owners are always around. It's steeped in history and you can spend ages reading all about the history on the walls. They have a boot room but it's a good idea to leave your ski boots at the lockers in the ski shop next to the gondala. Can't fault this hotel at all.
Amazing Hotel
10.0We recently returned from a lovely stay in this excellent hotel. The staff were all incredibly welcoming and helpful, especially Anita who looked after us at dinner service. The food was incredible! All so fresh and such a wide selection. A particular highlight was the evening with traditional music and delicious mulled wine. The hotel also has brilliant facilities including an immaculate spa with swimming pool both inside and outdoors. If you are thinking of staying here do not hesitate. It's an absolute gem! We will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you to all the staff and owners for making out trip so memorable!
Additional Training
6.0It is with regret that I have scored the Romantik average and this is down to a specific experience. We were booked in last week with my daughter her husband and our two grandchildren aged 17 months. I can at least start with the positives. The staff in the bar and restaurant were absolutely amazing. Polite and welcoming. The negative was the room allocated Room 405. Our room was located approximately within a very small distance across from a patio area for the adjoining flat. Room 405 had two windows. We booked in at approximately 2pm. Almost immediately we realised that the patio was being used by 3 guests who were smoking. We couldn’t open the windows. We were quite often looking after our grandsons. We felt this room was totally unacceptable given we were caring for our grandchildren. I immediately contacted reception staff. This was completely in vain . The female owner and her staffer came out with both barrels. Under no circumstances would they concede. I was informed repeatedly that Austrian hotels permitted smoking on balconies. I was left upset and disappointed by their refusal to accept the concerns we had for our grandchildren. We were told to use our daughters balcony to care for our grandsons. This was totally unacceptable and downright rude. I would say that the attitude of the female owner was not understanding at all. Interestingly the owners male and female ignored us for the entire time we were there in their hotel. I felt their welcoming speech was hollow and insincere.I would advise anyone to take care and caution in relation to their room allocation. As I said at the beginning the general staff were absolutely welcoming with our family. The owners and reception staff nil points. We will not be returning to the Hotel Romantik. I would urge caution in relation to room allocation and the smoking endorsement for balconies by this hotel. I would recommend additional training for the reception staff. I would suggest that the owners participate in this training. My approach to them was respectful. Their response was to immediately take a defensive stance.
Simply the Best!
10.0AMAZING!!! The Romantik hotel, Zell am see is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. It is a family run hotel with proud heritage. It has everything you can ever ask for. It is clean, warm, accommodating, and has extremely nice food. The spa is an incredible way to finish your day skiing with a swimming pool from the inside to the outside, with a jacuzzi and sauna / steam rooms. The location is situated in the heart of the town and walking distance to restaurants, bars, bus stations, and the gondolas. This hotel has really set the standards. Thank you to the lovely family and staff for an incredible experience!
Our best week ever! Fantastic Hotel
10.0We have visited the Romantik Hotel / Metzgerwirt for many years and with each visit, it honestly just gets better! This trip was a bit different for us, as I have retired recently and wanted to do something a little special and memorable, as a treat to ourselves to mark the occasion, so we booked as usual via Inghams but contacted the hotel to ask if we could pay the upgrade fee to them direct to secure one of their amazing and new suites with a personal sauna. We had a very prompt reply and everything was arranged! On arrival, check-in was done within a minute or two, excluding the ever-present warm welcome we always receive which adds a bit to the check-in time! Up to the room, we were definitely not disappointed - spacious, spotlessly clean, modern, contemporary and well-equipped, and there was the sauna next to the walk in rainfall shower! This was heaven, every day we would use it after skiing, it was fully adjustable to suit heat preferences, and perfect. I did still visit the steam room in the Emotion spa downstairs, and popped in the hotter of the two sauna's there, but most of the week we used just our own. This is a treat which is well worth investing in the upgrade cost. The hotel has always had some work done between seasons for as long as we can remember and this year is no exception, but we didn't notice in a good way, as the same cosy, warm welcome was ever-present and the services we are used to still continue as normal, or rather even better. Primary amongst these, for us, is the quality of the food and dining experience. This year really was the best ever - the soups were amazing, the salad buffet and cheese buffet generous and very fresh, presented like a work of art - some people we met there were amazed at the choice and quality and said it was amazing to have honeycomb honey and we couldn't agree more, everything is fresh, local, and carefully chosen and presented. Breakfast by the wonderful Erika is always a highlight, and her team including the lady who's name I always struggle to pronounce who has been there for around 30-40 years does the BEST omelettes ever! There are some new staff, all of whom seem to come from a secret place where only the best, nicest people are produced (Zell am See!) and they are all so helpful - from the reception staff, the lovely room fairies, the restaurant staff (Patrick was really on form this year!) and of course the Family Horl - who I will have to give a special mention to this year as we were really spoilt by them! Anna manages the reception area amongst other roles, and booked us for example a lovely table at Franzl's restaurant on the Schmittenhohe one day, which her brother Sebastian manages, and wow - what a meal! We also had help with our lift passes from a lovely lady who sorted us out with hiking and ski passes, directions, tips and advice, etc. and always the warmest greeting every day (she even gave us a bottle of water each as we waited for our taxi to the bus depot on our last morning so that we wouldn't be thirsty on the trip to the airport). Werner organised an ice curling event one evening, always great fun, with Gluhwein afterwards, and Sabine and Werner organised a very special final night for us and some other longstanding guests with a private and 'secret' surprise schnapps tasting evening in the wine cellar, which was the best night ever, with gifts, cheese snacks, singing and stories being shared. Where else would you have that experience but here! We returned home a little depressed, knowing that even as I type this, the hotel is continuing with wow-ing new and regular guests, but most of all we miss the feeling that only this hotel can provide - of care and attention to guest experiences, through the warm welcomes and amazing services provided. We saw Josef, the main man of the family every day, and of course Maxi, and we would love to be back having a Guten Morgen from them, but it is also reassuring that when we return, as we will, we will see them all again and find out what is new, what remains the same, and how the two merge into each other with the aim of giving you the best week of the year, every year! Thank you to all of the staff, from the room fairies who are so lovely to speak to every day, to the restaurant and kitchen staff and the Family Horl who bring it all together for us - what a week!
A fantastic stay!
10.0Romantik Hotel Zell am See – A fantastic stay! Our room was beautiful with a very comfortable bed, and we enjoyed an excellent, restful night’s sleep with no noise at all. We only had breakfast during our stay, but it offered an amazing selection and everything tasted great. The service was excellent, and the hotel was spotlessly clean. Skiers will appreciate the well-equipped boot room, and the spa was lovely and relaxing. The central location is perfect, and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again on our next ski trip!
