Misleading menu
4.0Thought we’d have a light lunch so browsed the online menu before we arrived. After finding a table I went to the bar to order our food and drink. The young gentleman serving us couldn’t find our choices on his til so asked a young lady where the items were. A very sharp “we don’t do that” was the answer to his question. I tried to point out the items were on line which was met with a shrug. I settled for a drink instead and we lunched elsewhere. My point is why have an online menu showing items that aren’t available in the bar area ?
Really really happy
8.0Had an absolutely lovely stay for 1 night, happy happy. Room was clean, large and warm. Only reason i didn't give 5 starts is because of the noise, as our room was directly above the bar, there was chatter until around 11pm when it eventually got quiet. The room above sounded like it was going to cave in on us but I totally understand that they are old buildings and we were expecting it. Would 100% stay here again!! Staff were lovely and the location was perfect.
Awful
2.0Awful hotel, so run down. Rooms are cold with draughty windows, heating wasn't on. Furniture was in poor state, bed was lumpy, walls were damp and had cracks in them. Alls were thin coukd hear rooms next door clearly. Wouldn't stay here again
Don’t stay in room 8 until refurbished
6.0Just returned from a 2 night stay in room 8. I’ll start with the positives: the hotel is in a great location, looks charming on the outside, the food was nice and hot, the service was good, the bed comfy, the room is at the end of the corridor so less people walking past (being an old building the floor boards creak as you would expect). The negatives: the car park is extremely tight, there is parking on the high street until 10.30am (luckily we were able to get a space in the hotel carpark after that), the bathroom is appalling, not enough room to swing a cat but the peeling paint and mould is disgusting. I see from another review (4 weeks ago) it is due a refurbishment. Let’s hope this is sooner rather than later. Given the state of the bathroom it should be half the price paid or not occupied until sorted. Disappointing as I’ve been wanting to stay at the hotel for some time and unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations.
