Great for one night when travelling

We came with great expectations from our last visit 20 yrs ago. Sadly its gone downhill nce then
6.0The room was ok, fairly comfortable, and thankfully at the back of the hotel, so cooler in the heat. Location was good for touring local places of interest. Parking in the rear car park made access to the room much easier, being on the same level.
− We stayed here 20 years ago and remember wonderful food, beers, and a colourful appearance with flower baskets all over the front of the hotel. The road outside was much busier now, and the traffic noise was intrusive throughout the day. The floors and tables in the bar were sticky to touch, and not welcoming. But the biggest disappointment was the food, frankly disgusting! We tried a light lunch, but the fish gougons and chicken tenders were all just crispy batter with hardly any protein inside! We tried the evening meal, but little on the bland pub menu appealed, so we just had starters. The king prawn starter had just 4 prawns, at £2 each! I've had more prawns in a prawn cocktail. We were so disappointed with the food we just relied on Sainsbury's Meal Deals for the rest of our 3-night stay! However, the one exception was the cooked breakfasts, which were actually very good, in contrast to lunch and dinner, and served well by Nicole, although the top-ups of coffee had to be requested each day. Clearly the standards here have dived since Greene King took over, seemingly cutting costs to maximise profits. Very sad to see this lovely old pub go downhill. We won't be returning!

7.0Easy to find. Really liked the adjoining rooms with family. Ear plugs were welcome!
− It was very hot in the room even with a fan. Other fruit such as berries would have been nice with breakfast.
