A Unique Experience!
10.0This was our first time staying at Hillbrook Inn, but we did so based on it being highly recommended by friends of ours. We stayed in the Spring Cottage, which is lovely (we especially loved the BIG tub). You are in a building with 3 other cottages all attached, but we never heard and barely saw the other people staying there - the rooms are quiet and private. We got a couples massage our first night which was delightful and then had dinner at the Inn, which was a delicious and leisurely way to end our first evening there (I especially loved the chilled pea soup). Breakfasts were delicious, too, especially the omelets, the waffle, the potatoes and those big sausages. We did wish that the housekeeping had been a little more organized - we didn't find out until later on the second day that the housekeepers come when you are at breakfast - we had put our "do not disturb" sign out when we left for brekafast not knowing that and then took it off before we left for the day, expecting our room to be serviced while we were gone. It all worked out, but we wish we had been told that detail when we checked in. We also noticed some badly peeling paint on the walls in the dining room, which conveys a rathe rnegative first impression. Also on one of our nights there we went to the bar hoping to get a drink and no one was around to assist us, not at the bar or the concierge desk. So we just finally left without a drink. Another small but telling detail. Finally, the WI-FI, at least in the Spring cottage, was weak and incosistent. Couldn't even use it a number of times; that was OK, but something to be aware of. Although we enjoyed our dinner there the first night, we found some great (and cheaper) places to dine in the area (Bistro 112 in Shepherdstown and Brix 27 in Martinsburg were our favorites). A big shout out to Hannah who checked us in and also served us breakfast our first morning - she was wonderful and adorable and attentive. Also Trevor who was our waiter for dinner the first night. In summary, staying and dining at Hillbrook is a truly unique and delightful experience.
Peaceful, cozy and convenient location.
9.0Love the setting. The dinner was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful.
− The rooms are a little dated (stayed at Winter Cottage). There is a rustic charm but some tech could be updated.

Delightfully serene😍
6.0Hillbrook Inn & Spa has neat, verdant grass with clear flowing stream meandering the grounds that is so delightful and tranquil to be in the midst of. Its grounds have pink Spring flowering trees. The Overlook room in the main house is cozy. The bed was made up daily and towels replaced except on 4/9. Bottles of water were provided on 4/6 and 4/7. Breakfast was served in three dining areas. Pictures of our breakfast speak for themselves. The best treat is the croissant cup with apples in it. Our stay was for five nights so we were looking forward to a “change in menu” that was mentioned. It turned out that they have only one breakfast menu with four choices. Ms. Brooke, the Concierge, was quite pleasant and helpful on 4/9. The male concierge on 4/11 cared to ask how everything’s been. Members of the dining staff are all pleasant. I remember Ms. Jessi, who served us on 4/9, for saying to a couple, “I’m in heaven” with the birth of her granddaughter. We’ve stayed in various resorts and inns in different US States. Hillbrook is unique as they hand a bill for breakfast that’s zeroed out and suggests 18% and up tip amounts.
Out of date and disorganized
4.0I kept my daughters kids and paid for a 3 night stay. They arrived and anticipated a few hours of relaxation before venturing out for dinner. Got a call at about 4 to ask if they were coming to their pre booked couples massage. They explained that they had booked it for next day with front desk. Spa and front desk got it wrong. When they asked if they could have it on correct date of booking they were told no. Need to come now. Not a great way to start the trip. When trying to shower after massage they found that their shower head was dirty and clogged. They asked if it could be cleaned. They were told yes. It never happened. I paid for dinner at the property for nights 2 and 3. Night 2 dinner was complete with a small portion cup of olives app. A steak that was so small they had to find food afterwards due to hunger. They cancelled 3rd night dinner. Bar was tiny and jammed into a corner in the main house. Breakfast was a real disappointment. They described it as just ok and nothing special. They ate all future meals away from the Inn. Seems that dinner at 125.00 per person would be the “star of the show”?!?! Don’t book the cabins. I advised that I wanted the best room they had at booking (directly with the Inn) and was told Winter Cabin was the choice to be made. The cabin was split into 4 rooms and not dedicated as I was lead to believe. I was looking forward to visiting myself and sending others. They recommended I find anywhere else in the area I was
