New chef but food still excellent.
10.0The Crown has a new chef, Jamie, who has taken over from Sam. The food is less fine dining now but still superb. Jamie showed off his skills with the Josper Grill- a sort of high end BBQ. A good selection of different meat including venison- all delicious. Service was the usual friendly and efficient level and we left feeling we had been well looked after.
Perfect weekend escape with great food, live music and dog-friendly stays
10.0We’ve dined here a few times since Jamie took over as head chef and honestly, we can’t get enough. The food has been consistently great, and it’s quickly become one of our go-to spots. We’ve also stayed a couple of times and it makes for a perfect weekend escape. The rooms are really cosy and well-appointed — the beds in particular are incredibly comfortable, which always makes a difference. Saturday nights are a highlight, with live music creating a really good atmosphere without feeling over the top. It still feels like a proper, welcoming pub. One of the biggest positives for us is that it’s dog-friendly. Being able to bring our dog and head straight out for walks around Faringdon is a huge bonus. The staff are always warm and friendly and genuinely make you feel welcome every time we visit. Location-wise, it’s ideal too — about 30 minutes to Oxford and within easy reach of the Cotswolds, so there’s plenty to do nearby. We’ll definitely be back again soon! Thank you team Crown!
You won’t be disappointed!
10.0I use this place mainly for meeting a mate as it’s half way between us, that said there are lots of places we could go to and we often say ‘shall we try somewhere else’…. Nope it’s always The Crown! They have a totally unrivalled selection of ales and lager on tap. We have eaten in the bar area on a few occasions and every time is been superb (the fish and chips and the burger stick in my mind as being memorable). If you’re wanting a ‘date night’ with the wife I’d recommend the main ‘ballroom restaurant’ as it’s really special. There is sometimes have a live band in the lower bar and huge outside seating area. If you’re in the area you really must give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!
Delicious food in a stunning setting
10.0We had a fantastic dinner at the Old Crown Coaching Inn featuring food cooked on their special grill (cooked over charcoal.) Beautiful langoustine to start, and a selection of other meats shared as a main. Pork, Barnsley chop, sirloin amongst others. Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was fabulous and the setting very special. All in all a very memorable meal and highly recommend if you’re in the area.
Lovely old coaching inn
10.0Really enjoyed our stay here. The building is lovely, the room was comfortable, the food was exceptional, but the staff were the icing on the cake. Friendly, cheerful and nothing too much trouble attitude from everyone.
A gem
10.0Amazing memories of this place. The atmosphere in the bottom bar was always so welcoming, especially thanks to Dale, the bar manager, who went above and beyond to make everyone feel at home. He always kept the log fire going, which made the place feel so cosy, especially on cold evenings, and he always looked out for me and my friend whenever we came in. It wasn’t just a pub, it felt like a proper safe, friendly place where you could relax, have a laugh, and warm up by the fire. I really miss coming here and hope to visit again soon. Places like this are special and hard to find these days.
