Sadly disappointing for the cost and expectation

6.0

I travel a lot and I stick to Marriott properties (Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador level). After a lot of research on which property to stay at in Osaka, we had decided to book the St. Regis in Osaka to end our 10 day trip to Japan. After 4 other hotels (Marriott properties) along our 10 day journey, sadly the St. Regis in Osaka was by far the most disappointing of our stays (for what I paid). The hotel is beautiful and definitely has a luxury look and feel to it. The staff was very kind, hospitable and accommodating, but the amenities and overall service were (IMO) lacking. But, there were some great things about this beautiful hotel. The hotel is gorgeous and our room had an amazing view of Osaka and the location of the hotel was perfect……the subway was just a few steps away, Starbucks is across the street and the covered walkway heading to Midosuji, Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori are across the street. Great restaurants and shopping all steps away. Our stay was lovely and it is not that anything was wrong with this hotel, but it was more of what was missing in comparison to other properties of equal or less than star ratings. We were greeted by a lovely Bellman (I forget his name….British fellow) who was so friendly and amazing!! Check in was lovely, but took forever. We were tired from our trip and wanted to be able to check-in and get settled and head out to explore as this was our last night in Japan. Instead, the check in process took forever and we were told to wait in our room for the butler who would be bringing us a “welcome drink”. The butler finally arrived after 30 minutes. He was nice, friendly and spoke great english, but he proceeded to go through a full presentation on the TV that lasted a long while. The butler did speak great English and he had a special touch of bringing a small mousse cake for my son’s birthday and they made cute elephants out of towels on the bed at turndown service. The room was nice, but cramped and outdated. There was 1 electrical outlet by the bed, but no USB outlets whatsoever anywhere in the room. The bathroom did have toiletries that were nice, but they did not offer facial care products that every other hotel we stayed in while in Japan did. The room had a foot massager, but it was broken (or maybe I just couldn’t figure out how to use it) and they had a humidifier, but again…..I couldn’t get it to work. There was not an ironing board or iron in the room, which I assume was because the Butler said that he would iron what we needed, but considering how long it took for the Butler to arrive the other times I called, I just wanted to do a quick steam and press myself, but I couldn’t. The gym was very tiny and had very limited strength and conditioning options and did not have any space for stretching or personal exercises. No disinfectant wipes or spray either. After traveling Japan and having an Onsen each morning, I was also disappointed that there was not an onsen or spa area at this hotel (there was a spa for services). I tried their “signature” Bloody Mary drink and it was not good. I did not even drink it all (which tells you a lot). The breakfast was nice, but again very disappointing in regards to options vs a Westin and Prince Hotel. I tried their hotel signature Miso Omlette and both my son and I thought that it was awful. At checkout, we called the butler line and asked for luggage assistance and a taxi to take us to the KIX airport. It took over 30 minutes for the butler to arrive to help with the luggage and she did not bring a cart, so we ended up taking our own luggage down. It turned out that they hadn’t called a taxi, so I had to call one myself (which I would’ve happily done from the first place), and we ended up leaving 20 minutes later than I had hoped to get to the airport. Upon leaving the St. Regis, I looked back at the Marriott in Osaka and in hindsight I wish I would’ve booked there instead. They would’ve had an M club, full gym, and at least equivalent amenities for a much lower price. This hotel did not feel that it had that Japanese special touch that I felt everywhere else that we stayed along our travels. I would have let go of the “pomp and circumstance” to have some of the smaller touches that really make a difference to me.

Great hotel and attentive staff

8.0

Great location next to the train station and near convenience, stores and Starbucks. Positive atmosphere with Friendly and attentive staff. Butler service is a plus. Butlers went out of their way to help us with our everyday needs. Also when I needed to repair a suitcase, they assisted me with tools needed to make the repair. As a Bonvoy Marriott platinum they offered an upgraded room and the usual amenities. We visited the restaurant for breakfast and they offered both American and Japanese entrees, but the selection and the service was average. Another benefit was the butler would bring extra towels, water, and coffee as needed. We love the Butler box where they would put their items in and flash a light on control panel so you wouldn’t have to open the door upon their visit. This is the first time staying at a Saint Regis Hotel, but it won’t be our last time this hotel provided a great first impression and we would recommend it to others.

A Steady Favorite in Osaka

10.0

I have stayed at the StR Osaka 6 or 7 times now, and I have made it my go-to hotel for my Osaka stays. There are some excellent hotels in Osaka at good price points, but I will explain why the StR is my favorite. Location: The StR sits on top of Hommachi station, which lets you take the Midosuji line N/S and the Chuo line E/W. These two lines will get you to a lot of the place you want to go. Additionally, you can walk out the door and go directly down towards Shinsaibashi-Suji. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the check-in area is quiet and serene. The bar is a knockout, and a renovation was completed in February 2026 (unfortunately for me it was being renovated during my stay and we only got to go one night). They have great drinks and often nice live music. The rooms are classic and nice while not being absolutely top of the line. Breakfast is great, and the on-site tappanyaki is very good. Hotel concierge has always been very helpful in setting up reservations, cars, etc. Elite benefits: I am currently Marriott Ambassador, but have stayed as a Titanium and Platinum. Always gotten good breakfast benefit (sometimes extended to my guests in other rooms too), and very nice welcome gifts. They even remembered by daughters name and had a custom set of cookies iced welcoming her, which was very nice. The only knock is that, for a luxury Marriott in Asia, they are pretty stingy with the suite upgrades. I've never really been given what I would consider a substantial upgrade (oddly, once I was offered a suite when traveling with a friend - had a two bed room booked and they offered to upgrade me to a 1 bed suite. I declined. This annoys me because they had 2 bed suites available on app, they just don't ever offer them as upgrades. Overall, one of my favorite properties.

A great stay over all

7.0

It was a beautiful hotel. The location was amazing. The rooms were lovely

I waiting at the breakfast for 45 minutes after I ordered it. We were going to universal studios right after and were in a hurry. When we asked they said they forgot to out the order. We had to leave right away without breakfast and we were never compensated with anything
