We just stayed at Schulphoek Huis in a very expensive sea view room. Firstly its my fault for not knowing that Sandbaai is not Hermanus! The view was great and the staff were friendly. Half of the TV channels of what is a very small bouquet of channels to start with, did not work. The towels were thin and old. The breakfast was delicious. The price did match the experience for me.

A 5 Star Boutiques Hotel reflecting a Guest House worth a 1 Star

What a View!!! This from a Luxury Sea facing Room. We did not read the reviews prior to our booking for 2 x Days. We as Husband and Wife- 70 year old and married for 49 years experienced the worst of the worst meals. Schulphoek is advertised as a Five Star Boutique Hotel and on arrival we noticed a Schulphoek House ( Guest House). Not Legal and a mis-interpretation of a Luxury facility. We really applaud the staff. Their friendliness and trying to be professional with every request is a disgrace with what we experienced from the facility. Unfortunately the Restaurant and facility does not support their efforts. The results is, us/we as guests wonder what support they get from management. Our Experience: 1. The worst Menu I have ever seen. 2. The most unacceptable Meat dish as a main course prepared as a Fillè, priced so way out with no garnishing or sauces available, served cut and overdone not even a hint of Medium, cold and tough. We know meat in South Africa and have never experienced this ever. NB: How can such a place survive and I suggest you to close it down or revamp. 3. A closer look at the cleansiness of the rooms 16 and Carpet - Poor. Even the bathroom floor 4. The guest toilet / public toilet near the dining hall has a floor that does not been cleaned. Important . This facility does not qualify as a 5 Star facility. Only the view can satisfy a guest. I believe that Management must know this. if they do not, then I believe they are not listening to their Personnel whom I believe to be understaffed as well or are ignored. The money is good. Now I believe if we stay only one day, we will not be refunded.

Terrible value, terrible location

This place holds up a front of being prestigious but it's not at all. It's in a terrible location (a few houses from the squatter camp) which is why in the rooms they advise guests to only walk in the opposite direction when they leave the property and to leave all valuables behind. The rooms are spacious but aircon couldn't use the warming function when it got very cold and the TV did not work at all. They spent nearly an hour in our room trying to turn it on but could not get the TV connected. The overall value is terrible because you are essentially paying for luxurious sea front accommodation and amenities which you do not have. They charged us the same price for a massage as the major hotels do, when it was a really inferior service in a small back room next to the swimming pool.

Scam hotel

I think this hotel is a scam. I booked with free cancellation and then contacted with a question. After a week I hadn’t heard back, which is very poor service for a 5 star hotel so I requested to cancel and immediately had an email to say full payment had been taken in line with booking policy. After several emails and phone calls they confirmed they’d cancel the booking - I was well over a month outside of their 14 day free refund policy. 2 weeks later and still 2 weeks ahead of their 14 day refund policy, I’m still waiting for a refund and they’re back to ignoring my emails…

An absolute oasis of tranquility with stunning sea views.

Unfortunately we were only able to stay one night at Schulphoek House, but wish it could have been longer. The staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The sea room views are absolutely magnificent along with the rooms themselves. We ate in the restaurant and the food which was all freshly cooked was excellent. Would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending a stay if you are considering. Highly rated and would stay again without hesitation.

what could be a gem of a hotel destroyed by low staffing and poor management. , seaview rooms have a view to die for apart from good breakfast the management is bad and distrustworthy plus it is difficult to sleep if it rains. Our heating was only acceptable noise when off. The hotel damaged my rental car on entry and since then I have experienced the worst of hotel management with the assistant manager being incompetent and untruthfull. (manager on vacation). Staff are in short supply, to enter the hotel currently you walk through water. I wonder why the owning Gutstadt family allow their hotel to be destroyed by pooor management, it could be so good.
