On first impression we thought it was a lovely place in a great setting but was let down greatly by there being no hot w
5.0We thought the property was well presented, clean, and adequate for what we needed. Breakfast was nice with plenty choice. Garden lovely too
− There was no hot water to shower the whole time we stayed (Friday 10th until Sunday 12th July) in the Darwin room. We reported this twice to reception but there was no change to the hot water for our entire stay. Other residents complained also and still no change. When we wanted to wash we had to part boil the kettle (which had limescale in) then stand in the shower with it to get a semi-decent clean……it did spoil our stay as we were down there for a festival at knebworth for the weekend so a shower was in desperate need due to the heat down there also. We also asked for another fan for the room but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Also, we were advised to help ourselves to the complimentary mini fridge which comprised of two bottles of water and a cereal bar
Fabulous Character Pub.
9.0Large room, nice decor, clean and bright. Large fan, bed a little firm for me but overall ok. They accommodated my vegan meals which were tasty. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Loved the character of the place. Great location for visiting the springs which were 2 minutes walk away.
− It was a heatwave so keeping cool was not easy. The bathroom smelled of old food when the skylight was open, once the vent from the kitchen was running but too hot to shut it. I loathe plastic kettles, (they leech plastic into the water).

9.0Lovely comfy bed ! Room well equipped especially having a fridge with an excellent supply of complimentary items. We felt this was a lovely touch. Very polite and helpful staff. Excellent food with a good choice, nothing "too much trouble". Good atmosphere.

8.0The pub is well run by attentive staff, facilities are good and the room nicely proportioned. Food excellent. Bar area and outside very comfortable. Nice of road car parking.
− The stairs to the rooms are steep and with a turn. A hand rail (don't remember one) would help. But this is a lovely old building. The door locks are modern keyless and need some getting used to. but they do work Breakfast at 9 is too late for a work trip though.
