Lovely Hotel minor faults.

6.0

Lovely hotel but a few things i would fault. The rooms where vintage and however part of african theme which was nice. The Location was beautiful beaches are paradise clean and untouched, me and my family had a great time in the sea however strong current (not a problem). One thing i would like to improve is the service from some of the staff as they had uninterested faces and most of the time looked unapproachable and bored. Noice level was not an isssue for us. You’d definitely get your value for money at this hotel. Would 80% recommend it however the weather can be windy which is unsolvable but letting you know for future advice.

Nice stay!

8.0

We had a nice stay at the Touareg, but it is in need of the refurb. We stayed in block 9, which is the most recently renovated but again this is quite dated. The hotel and ground are kept lovely and clean and staff are welcoming. The pools have some signs of mould so i am sure this will be fixed in the coming months. The only issues we had were the evening entertainment was quite poor and also the only bottled water you could get was on arrival and it wasn’t always clear if the water fro machine was filtered.

Riu Touareg - Boa Vista

8.0

Friendly and respectful staff, room and hotel in general was tired looking but we understood that the refurbishment has been scheduled end of April 2026. Plenty of security around at night but to be fair the place is on its own on the South coast so nobody about but staff and guests and the occasional Donkey. The restaurants were very nice but mainly buffet style even the ones that you book using the APP all but one. We had a great and relaxing experience overall and going to RIU Cabo Verde, Sal in May which is Adult only and this looks fabulous!

Stunning week away.

A week away with my 20 year old daughter. We had a great week. The hotel was great including the food, the staff were brilliant from start to finish. We will be back after the refurbishment.

The Good and the bad.

6.0

Hi have a mixed review of the RIU Toreg. We just returned form a week stay there. I went with husband and two children. We travelled with TUI. From the outside the hotel is beautiful, the architecture is stunning. Rooms – We visited 14 years ago and even then, the rooms seemed shabby and outdated. I saw the photos and knew they had not been ungraded, but what was horrific was coming home from the first night at dinner to see the floor swarming with cockroaches. (We stayed on the 2nd floor) We phoned reception who just gave us a can of bug spray and left us to it. The next morning, I spoke to the TUI rep who said it wasn’t good enough and she arranged for the hotel to fumigate the room. It didn’t really work, the next night more bugs…no thanks. I wasn’t trying to recreate the Indiana jones scene. They did move us into a new room and we didn’t see a single bug for the rest of the time there. I do appreciate it’s a hot country and had I had seen one or two I might have coped, but then again, we paid a lot of money to be there, and I have travelled to many many hot countries and have never seen anything like it. Food – There was plenty of it, but as we have dairy allergies and I would say 90% of the selection had milk in it according to the labels, I even asked the chefs if certain things had milk in and they said no. so they need to review the labels or even cooking technique, does rice really need diary in? There was no dessert we could have apart from fruit. However, there was always something to eat even if it got a bit samey for us. We didn’t try the other restaurants because of the food allergies. I did email the hotel beforehand as I have done with every holiday and they have always provided alternatives even a few vegan dessert options. One in Lanzarote even went to the supermarket and bought vegan ice cream but here they probably don’t even have that stuff on the island. It’s a shame that there wasn’t more choice but we made do. I did enjoy the fish, the grilled meat and ate at the salad bar. Sadly during my final breakfast at the RUI Toureg I got food poisoning. I spent the flight home projectile vomiting and everyone looking at me in disgust. I spent Easter hugging the toilet bowl wondering which end was going to explode first…a very nasty experience. I feel lucky to be alive and I am not joking. The gym opens too late and there was a big line and when I got in everything was taken so I didn’t bother the rest of the holiday. The best bits. I had incredible fun lounging by the pool and taking part in the ballon fight and the Aqua classes, we enjoyed lounging and always managed to find a sunlounger which was good. The Beach was stunning, whales could be spotted on the beach it was red flag every day we were there, so we didn’t swim in the sea but it was still such a lovely place. We didn’t bother with any of the entertainment in the evenings, but we did go on a couple of excursions and enjoyed the Island Tour and the Catamaran trip which I fully recommend. The I don’t know if you can message on trip advisor but if you can do feel free to ask me any questions.

Not a 5 star but not bad value for money

6.0

If they didn’t advertise this as a 5 star hotel then I would have given it a higher rating. We booked this with TUI as one of their platinum resorts which has made me second guess that whole scoring system. Our first room was awful. First 2 days we had no hot water, so cold showers. The room smelt horribly of damp, the ceiling fan was falling off to the point we couldn’t turn it on without fear of it flying off, the toilet roll holder fell off and then the drawers were falling apart. We had paid for a sea view but were given a ground floor room which meant we could see next to nothing. We asked to swap rooms which after a few days we did, to the second floor. By the way reception told us that our original room was newly refurbished, with that whole block, number 9. I couldn’t believe it. The new room was much better. Things worked. But the room was pretty dated and run down still. The hotel itself again doesn’t give a 5 star feel. The restaurants are basically just buffets still and the buffets itself is chaos. The same food every single day of average quality. The pool area is desperate for a revamp too. Thankfully it was sunny the whole time we were there but the wind did make it chilly. They don’t do much to block the wind out like other hotels in Cape Verde so you do get it. Overall we spent 11 nights here, still enjoyed it but definitely not a 5 star. Reasonable value for money though.
