Great rooms with great meals
9.0Great stay, rooms were large and onsens were nice. The meals (breakfast and dinners) were amazing and freshly, with vegetables grown directly from their garden. Very quiet stay

Excellent food, way out in the countryside
7.0Very friendly and hospitable staff. The food served at dinner and breakfast was excellent! Great quality and generous quantity. The ryokan was quiet and located out in the countryside. WiFi worked well.
− There was no way to darken the room against the rising sun, so we were up shortly after 04:00. There seemed to be no attractions within walking distance of the ryokan.
Unforgettable stay in a beautiful rural part of Japan
10.0Shizukatei offers guests an unforgettable stay in rural Japan. Located about 7-8 km from Hiraizumi, the ryokan is surrounded by rolling forrested hills and rice paddies. Shizukatei grows much, if not all, of its veg served in the delicious kaiseki meals that they prepare with great care and with variations in the menu from day to day. Dinner is brought to your room, while breakfast is served in the dining room. The onsen has indoor and outdoor single sex baths. Our room did not have a shower, but its own toilet and sink. Showering was no problem in the onsen area. The hotel staff were lovely and helpful. They very kindly brought us to the Hiraizumi train station at the end of our two-day stay.
