The food was excellent. Wild life was spotted in the estate which was a treat. Lovely staff and calm, quiet and relaxing environment.

Not Quite the Gem It Claims to Be

The setting is pleasant and offers a nice bush atmosphere. Breakfast was generally enjoyable and the food quality was acceptable. The staff were polite and courteous throughout the stay.

− For a lodge charging R2,500 per night, the overall experience was deeply disappointing and fell well short of my expectations. In fact, I was so underwhelmed on arrival that I considered cancelling the remainder of my stay after the first night and enquired about doing so, but was unable to because of the lodge's cancellation policy. Although certain amenities may not be explicitly advertised, the lodge clearly positions itself as a luxury bush lodge, and guests paying premium rates reasonably expect a corresponding level of comfort and attention to detail. Unfortunately, our room lacked several amenities that I would consider standard at this price point, including a fridge, seating area, bathrobes, and a luggage stand. To make matters worse, the layout of the property meant that we were woken up every morning by the sounds of staff preparing breakfast in the kitchen, which undermined the peaceful bush retreat we were hoping for. The service, while polite, lacked enthusiasm and genuine hospitality, and one evening we encountered staff working in the kitchen wearing what appeared to be pyjamas, which struck me as unprofessional. Breakfast was acceptable, but the absence of 100% fruit juice and machine-brewed coffee was surprising. What I found particularly absurd was being charged R20 for an instant cappuccino sachet. At this rate, charging extra for a sachet coffee feels like unnecessary penny-pinching rather than quality hospitality. Having stayed at numerous lodges and guesthouses in a similar price range, I have received significantly better value, more amenities, and a far more polished experience elsewhere. Unfortunately, Gem in the Bush did not deliver the level of comfort, professionalism, or value for money that its pricing and luxury positioning led me to expect.

BREAKFAST WAS GREAT

− No TV in the rooms, no wifi

Besides bed and pillows.It was a great stay.I really enjoyed it.

The property is really stunning and very clean,It is easily accessible.

− The bed is not comfortable at all,it is very hard.The pillows were do thin,I woke up with a painful neck.When it comes to breakfast they didn’t have variety of options.
