A night in the woods

6.0

We stayed in a cabin #5 just a few days ago. PROS: fantastic staff. Great meals/ambience at the lodge. Cabin included every kitchen item one would need including a coffee pot. Beautiful scenery. We stayed warm and toasty even in winter. Snowmobile tour with Jason was a ball!! CONS: the cabin in VERY rustic. Very rustic, but that suited us just fine although we would have appreciated a cleaner, more comfortable couch. Bedrooms and shower/bathroom are tiny, but it IS a cabin after all. Hot tub was in dire need of cleaning and we did not use it although we paid extra to do so. This was very disappointed particularly after spending 3 hours on the sled.

Poor management

2.0

We stayed in a cabin #16 for 3 nights, our water froze the first night (it was not terribly cold, only about 18 degrees) which caused a very stressful morning with no water, no flushing toilet, and my Mom packing her luggage and asking us to take her home. The water situation was fortunatley solved within two hours and did not hapen again, except we had a power cable going through a cracked open window for the next two nights when it was about 10 degrees at night. The cabin is terribly built with drifty windows, very leaky door (you can see the outside around the door rim, yikes), and very squeaky stairs and beds, so anytime someone went to the bathroom, other people woke up. It also only had 4 chairs when it sleeps 7 people. Repairs are made in a very patch-worky make-shift way. Another inconvenience was that someone before us had a dog and we had dog hair all over our clothes. Those who do not appreciate pets will understand. The largest disappointment was that we had to change our dates of our stay but paid the original price which was $326 extra. We never got refunded and never even were offered to be refunded. Here is what happened - we had to move the dates to arrive before New Year's which did not include holidays, which originally cost $348 per each holiday day in the reservation system. The new dates did not include New Years Eve and Day and were supposed to be $185/each according to the reservation system. However, when we arrived, we were presented with the original price of the reservation. When we inquired about it, we were asked to call Dane, who stated that the lodge does not control the reservation system (so WHO does?), which is driven by supply and demand. I argued that the demand was very low, only three other cabins were occupied during our stay, and the price should be lower, that we should pay the $185 that the reservation system showed. Again, I was told that they cannot do anything about it because it is the reservation system. I got even more frustrated because if I cancelled our original stay, which is possible up to two weeks and when I was changing the dates, it as before the deadline, so if I cancelled, I would get a full refund. Then, I would book the new dates and saved $326. I wish I was told by the manager when I was on the phone with him changing the dates that we will still be charged the original more expensive price. Furthermore, even if the lodge is not in charge of the reservation system, the entity that benefits and that gets my money is the lodge. I do not understand why they would not refund me. It is unprofessional and feels like the lodge tries to get every penny from everyone. Don't tell me that if someone makes a reservation for a week but then can only stay three days, the lodge will still charge them for a week. Or, if they book some days over Christmas or 4th of July but then change the dates, they will still be charged a lot more for holidays. Well, that is exactly what happened. Jitka

Winter Wonderland

10.0

We stayed in cabin 5. Rustic, but modern gas stove for cooking and furnace kept us warm. Some might choose to bring an extra blanket if they are always cold. We went cross country skiing at the Grand Mesa County line area, 2 minutes away. Gentle rolling, beautiful scenery, well marked trails and free! No internet in the cabin, but we loved playing cribbage. Overall, a great wintertime get away!

Wont be going back

6.0

My husband and I have gone here every year for the last six years. We camped this time (Oct 2025) versus staying in the overpriced old cabins. This property has gone through three owners in the last six years. The campsites are in terrible shape, very uneven and directly adjacent to the construction they are doing. We listened to banging and a backhoe for 8 hours. My husband tripped and fell over a huge unmarked cable at the dock when he was fishing. New owners are more interested in building new cabins then making the existing property safe and welcoming. When I posted a review recommending guests ask about construction before going, the owner responded, stating I must have mistaken and stayed elsewhere! Wow! Stay at Mesa Lakes, better place and way better food.

The hot water in cabin 14 didn’t work. Some of the staff didn’t seem to know much about the cabins or surrounding area. But they were very polite. The lake was beautiful but the hike back up was a little rough for those out of shape, very worth it though. The store didn’t real have much to offer as far as food, not even milk and the restaurant doesn’t even use milk. We would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful time.

10.0

The cabin was very comfortable and recently updated well decorated raw pine furnishings. We chose their VIP package and enjoyed 3 hearty made to order meals free beverages and self serve ice cream all day and had the option for 3 draft beers. Beautiful lodge/restaurant very friendly and had very attentive staff. The fishing on Island Lake was great also. We are already planning our next visit here.
