Another lovely stay for us at The Old School House.

The Old Schoolhouse was conveniently and well-furnished and with a few changes could be exceptional.

The unit was self-catering (no breakfast offered). Its location was excellent: on a quiet street with adequate on-street parking. It was a short walk through a church yard to the market street with restaurants and shops. The house was comfortable and the kitchen well set-up with everything needed to make meals. We were happy to be allowed to arrive early. This was predicated on the cleaning staff having been able todo their work in advance of arrival. (The house was last vacated on the previous day.).

− We were promised the lockbox key code 24 hrs in advance of our arrival. I called several times after that for the code and to learn if we could arrive early with no success. Both the code and the affirmative on arrival time were available at 8:30 when we had to leave at 9 am for the 4-hr drive to Pickering. Our friends arrived ahead of us and could not find the lockbox and went off to lunch. We arrived and similarly could not find the lockbox. I called but the agent's rep was not helpful. She said it was to the right of the front door. It was not. I went to a neighboring B&B and asked the host if he knew about the lockbox. He said his wife thought it might be up a raised (one high step), gravel path adjacent to the house. Indeed it was there hidden from the street on the side of the house. I confirmed with the rep that the lockbox was found, however, getting the key should not have been so difficult. The generalized fire instruction to 'exit by the nearest door' ignored the fact that the door to the patio led to a confined area without an exit. The second bathroom on the first floor was useful as a half-bath but not for showers. There was no curtain or surround so the whole room would be soaked if the shower were used. Instead, we shared the upstairs shower with our friends. That shower should have a floor mat or firm wall grip to avoid slips or falls.

Nothing negative to say.. Would definitely consider booking again when next visiting Pickering.

Location excellent, close to all attractions and amenities. Spacious property. Lovely enclosed garden for sitting out and relaxing. 2 x toilets and shower facilities was also a good plus.

− The key box could be better positioned... note to anyone staying here... its on the side of the house, took a bit of detective work to find it!
